This is a pretty good video about the "stuff" in our products. What is scary, is that there are no regulations on this "stuff". In school (for esthetics) we were taught about ingredients and what they do. It was also stressed often that these things are only dangerous in large amounts. So I asked, what is considered a large amount? Nobody knew. I found that scary. So I independently did some research myself. Still, nothing. Actually, those department store products tend to be the same as the drug store ones. They all have the same ingredients. Toxic, or non-toxic. There are good ingredients out there, but they take work to find. And you will pay for them, thats for darn sure.

I dont even own any makeup. I never wear it and never really have. A few years ago I had gotten a hair cut and they did complimentary makeup and I broke out badly in hives from the makeup. Since then Ive been afraid to even try anything else

http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/ has thorough information on every skin care product you can think of, and rates them for how safe they are. It is overwhelming how many bad things are in even baby care products. The main company, Environmental Working Group, also has a site specifically for sun screen. Again, shocking information. Badger unscented SPF30 came in as one of the safest. They even explain how our sunscreens in the US do not block the more dangerous sun rays. Very informative.

Here is a recipe to make your own sunscreen!

    Sesame Sunscreen

    Makes: 2 ounces of butter
Application: Use half an hour before going in the sun
Storage: 2 ounces dark glass jar in the fridge
    Shelf life: 6 months

    What to Buy
    2 tablespoons coconut oil
    1/2 teaspoon sesame oil
    1 tablespoon shea butter
    1/2 teaspoon aloe vera gel
    2 teaspoons zinc oxide

    How to Make It
Place the oils and shea butter in a small bowl set over a saucepan of boiling water. Heat until the shea butter has melted. Pour into a glass measuring cup and stir in the aloe vera gel and the zinc oxide. Pour into your jar.
