Consistency

What is consistency in fitness ? How can one be on it ? How to not get derailed from the track towards your goals and how to make your minds focused when you seem to be not going anywhere even after a month on the journey with. A lot of flatuations in weight

    You gotta want it.

If you don’t get what you want then you didn’t want it bad enough.

So you ask about consistency in fitness. And then you talk about fluctuations in weight and about being on the journey (presumably to fitness) for a month.

I think that you're conflating a couple of things. And this may also be having an impact on your success.

Fitness and athletic performance are one thing. And necessary. They are SECONDARY when it comes to weight loss. You will achieve weight loss primarily by controlling your calories.

Weight fluctuations are NORMAL. And if your weight loss speed is moderate to slow the weight fluctuations can exceed the speed of weight change. Your weight trend (either an app or a weighted average) should better show your weight trajectory.

If you have not achieved a reasonable caloric deficit you will not see a long term reduction of your weight.

I set goals and make it a point to complete them.

I have a calorie goal well above my recommended level, and try to eat it all, even if I don’t feel like it, or the demon in the back of my head whispers “you’ll lose faster if you don’t eat em all”. I won’t, so I don’t. I need the nutrition.

I have exercise goals. I like to take X number of classes per week, four walks of a mile minimum per day, lift weights X days a week and so on.

I also shoot for closing the “move” ring on my fitness tracking device a specific number of times. If it’s evening and I’m short, I grab the dog and take another walk. Having a quantifiable way to track movement has been very very helpful for me.

There’s a lot of people here who have goals for weights, running times, number of push-ups.

Of course this is a wide-open question. When I was first getting into fitness, I worked out with a grad school classmate who loved lifting weights. He focused on isolation-style weightlifting: leg day, chest and back, a whole workout for curls and triceps. That sort of thing. It works, but there's not much time for anything else, so you just plain have to like weightlifting a lot.

It turns out, I like a lot of stuff: swimming, cycling (road and trail), jogging, rollerblading, windsurfing (in the day), kayaking, SUPing, skiing, hiking. So, for me, I just focus on having at least 5 active days a week. I also set some goals for summer by signing up for a few triathlons, open water swims, charity runs, hiking days with friends, whatever. This helps me stay on a schedule, more or less, but I am much more of a participator than a competitor. (For charity events, I like to sign up early in the season so I get motivated. Most of the ones I do are easy, like 5ks, but for the harder ones, I'll do an actual training plan.)

The point is that consistency is whatever you want it to be. YOU select what want to do, setting a challenging-but-achievable schedule for doing them. Sometimes, you will fall short, but you just pick it back up when you can. YOU pick things that you like doing without falling into "shoulds." Team up with friends makes it a whole lot more fun.

    Best of luck!
