Calories vs Macros?

Macros have calories: each g of fat is 9, each g of protein & carbs is 4. So it should work out about the same in the end. Kind of like saying I'm not sure if I should save dollars, or coins. A certain amount of each coin makes up the dollar.I am so confused as to whether to count calories or macros in order to lose 1.5-2 pounds each week.
