Is it safe to accept Friend requests?

Lately I've received two friend requests that set off a red flag for me (albeit for no good reason). I'm wondering if by accepting a friend request, a spammer (or worse) can gain access to my private email, etc.

    I don’t worry about that personally bc my info is set to private. Check your settings hun. Have a fantastic day!
