1 gram of fat = 9 calories

I've read that 1 gram of fat = 9 calories

Then how come that on the nutritional fact on my fish bottle (Nutrasea fish oil), there is 40 calories in 5g.

Shouldn't be 5g x 9 = 45 ?

The only thing I can think of is that the fish oil you have is in capsules, and the capsule itself weights a little under a gram. If its not in a capsule, then I have absolutely no idea, but I have seen similar discrepancies on other nutrition labels as well.

True, but unless the OP label reads differently it not the company.

4.5 x 9 = 40.5. All calories are estimates and labels are allowed to be within 20% accurate, I think so round down to 40. Probably rounded down because people tend to lime whole, round numbers better. How many US packaged products really ever say like 42 or 44 calories? Mostly it'll say 40 or 45.

I think you are right. It's probably only a question of rounding. However, your label is more accurate than mine. I can understand round 40.5 calories to 40, but on my label they would be rounding 45 calories to 40. It seems a little too much. Anyways, I doubt those little discrepancies will affect my diet too much.

By the way, you look gorgeous on your picture. ;-)

Yes. For example, instead of putting 40.5, you put 40; Instead of putting 59, you put 60.

It's to make it more simple.

Isn't ''rounding'' the word for that action?
