I have a question about building my own recipe

I go to My Recipes and wish to add a recipe. When I begin entering, MFP asks how many servings the recipe will be. I enter ingredients manually, I enter the number of servings (usually found on the recipe I am making). Then I begin adding ingredients. Let's say I'm adding a medium vidalia onion. The first thing I'm asked to enter is "Serving size" and then "Number of Servings". This is the whole recipe - If I'm putting one medium onion in, is that one medium onion the serving size and the number of servings is one or do I have to enter that the one onion is the same number of servings the recipe is intended to serve? Help?

Because recipes list ingredients with various types of measurements (weight, volume, and so on) there is no way for the recipe editor to calculate how many servings of a particular size will result when the various items are combined.
If you're not sure how many servings a recipe will produce, enter a best-guess number when you first create the recipe.
After the recipe is prepared, you can manually measure the number of servings that have been produced. Then, the recipe can be edited and the correct number of servings can be entered.
We would also recommend then putting in the actual serving amount in the title of the recipe to then remember how much each serving weighs.
Hope this helps, but if you need additional help, please email our Support Team at support@myfitnesspal.com.0

Yea, You are correct, enter the servings the recipe serves on the first page when giving a name and what not and then when entering individual ingredients you select the amount of that ingredient being used in the recipe. If the options MFP database gives you aren’t quite right select search for alternative and more options for individual ingredients can be found. I hope that helps.. I love the recipe creator, I use it almost daily 👍0

If you put 1 medium onion in the recipe and the entry you're using says 1 onion is 1 serving you would enter 1 serving. If you add 2 onions and your entry says 1 onion is 1 serving, then you would enter 2 servings. When you finish the recipe, the entire recipe will be divided by the number of servings.0
