70 years old and still trying!

Been pretty fit most of my life but I have always struggled with my weight. Came back to My fitness pal last year but haven't posted till now. Started at about 150. I'm only 5'1" so I don't carry the extra well. Finally down to just under 135 and now I am trying the Intermittent Fasting plan. My biggest hurdle is staying away from the sweets.

Hello, and welcome to the Community side of MFP! I'm a little younger (67 now), lost weight at 59-60 with MFP, 183 pounds to 120s, currently still in a healthy range 7+ years later (low 130s post holidays ;) at 5'5"). I don't do IF or anything special, just count calories, try to average around my goal, strive for routine good nutrition. I'm active, but I was similarly active long before losing weight.

For me, making it a point to eat several servings of fruit daily helped reduce my cravings for more calorie-dense sweet treats like candy and baked goods. (I'm not saying I never eat those, but I don't crave them like I once did.) This isn't something that works for everyone, but there are others here who find it helped them, too, so it might be worth a try. The first small number of weeks are more willpower-dependent, but after that it was easier. Now, a lot of things - like humdrum grocery store baked goods - taste too simple and way to sweet, not even good.

Other tactics that helped me moderate cravings wouldn't be effective in an IF situation, I think - it's about timing eating/nutrients for better satiation. If IF does that for you, great!

    Wishing you success!
