Hi Barb!
Do what you like, of course, but be careful about this mindset.
In my experience, because I have done this in the past, when I do this, I then get SO HUNGRY that it starts this terrible cycle of doing it again and again.
In my experience, better just to dust myself off and restart with my normal calories for the day, because 600 calories over what you expected to eat? That's MAYBE maintenance calories, maybe just a little over, which means over the course of a week, you'd still lose weight.
Seeing calories as weekly rather than daily things helped me take progress or failures in stride. Something to think about.3 -

Hello ladies! I know I have been a bit MIA, but I am here. The hubby has been traveling, and there has been LOTS to keep me busy. I am definitely grateful for the friendly help with dealing with the in-laws in a compassionate way (they both have moderate dementia). I could not have done this without prayer, as it is confusing to me to try to deal with them differently than in the past. They were always the rock and fortress of our family. It is so strange to have to do things without their permission (because they can’t remember or focus, and usually immediately forget - but not always, so that I stay on my toes!).
I have some super great news, my God-daughter is now a fiancee and will be getting married February of next year!! This is miraculous. He is a wonderful man. Since I don’t have children of my own, Chelsea has been the daughter that I most certainly would like to have had - so God gave her to me!
I will try to keep in better touch, I have been in an out so much that some things needed to wait. Keep on keeping on my friends! Be gentle with yourselves and patient. It pays off!
Also, on the note of self care (which for me has been an important part of the journey) yes it is difficult to care for yourself. It is very easy to put your body's needs last. But, if you are part of a family that you enjoy or have friends that you enjoy - do it for them too. When life happens, and you could really be there for those you love - you can really only do this with very good stewardship of your body and soul.
I know it is a huge sacrifice sometimes to eat more veggies, eat food that is nutritionally better for you, and drink some crazy amount of water - but the payoff is huge. Kinda like walking. I once watched a video that it takes 6 months of dedicated walking to really get the health payoff of: positive mental health, better sleep, and better memory. So while diligence is what gets you there, it really happens one step at a time. But I just pray for everyone here who is challenged with self care (I know I am) to thrive! You can do it ladies! Be gentle, be positive and most especially don't overwhelm yourselves! Stay whelmed! lols, whatever that means! Hugs for all!

@CupcakeCrusoe Thanks! I did just what you suggested. I didn't count raiding the fridge and started with my lunch today. Did a lot of walking so that gave me a few more calories too. So, I feel like I'm on target again.
@justanotherloser007 I enjoyed your post and congrats to your God-daughter! How exciting! I also agree about doing this for the ones we love. They want us around and healthy for as long as possible.2 -

I remember this quote too but not positive who said it either. I lean towards @sargemarcori for some reason. Great reminder for all of us. Maybe a statement for on the refrigerator! :-)

@justanotherloser007 Yeah! Glad to hear from you. I've been wondering how you were doing. Glad you've been well and maintaining your weight, (better than me). It's tough. I think I've got my head screwed back on straight now and maintaining low carbs and the weight is starting to come back off again.2

Dinner has been kind of rough this week: I typically get done with work about 5:30, then I need to get food prepped, cooked, and eaten so I can be out the door and get to rehearsal by 6:45. But I've been buoyed by meal planning, lots of leftovers, and sheet pan dinners. I will have to meal prep this weekend since the show is in just two weeks and things get intense fast.

@pamperedlinny I did try two new recipes this week, just not from my new cookbooks! Unstuffed Cabbage rolls with Palmini rice and Sheet Pan Baked feta (both Skinnytaste.com recipes) were big enough hits to go into the permanent rotation.

Hey all! Still trying to catch up. I had off work yesterday. I told myself I would relax, have a bath, read a book, take a nap.... instead I started working on errands and chores. By 4:30 I was filthy but my parents also think they will be here Monday night instead of Tuesday afternoon. Between being busy today, Easter tomorrow and working on Monday I had to get some of it knocked out.
In happy news I did get to the school to have lunch with my daughter. I loved getting to sit with her and have some one on one time in the middle of her day. Also, I forgot how weird it is to think of lunch at 10:55am. Nothing like hitting the drive thru for "lunch" at 10:30 in the morning.

Hi! I've been here before on an old account, I think... couple of people look familiar...
I'm Sissylynn, I'm 43 years old, 5'1", disabled, mama to a 14 year old... and I weighed in April 1st at exactly 280 lbs.
Today I weighed in at 266, but that is ALL water weight from actually paying attention to what I eat because I'm still over my weekly calories, lol.
So.
Idk what to put here. No actual progress yet. I don't have any goals yet, aside for eating under maintenance...
So... hi!2 -

@CupcakeCrusoe Don't think it was me about the trash can!
@pamperedlinny You ladies look adorable! And I definitely remember when lunch was crazy early. It's funny that you never question it when you're a kid.
@Sissylynn1979 Welcome! We're glad to have you back.
So, trying to get two workouts in this weekend. My strength training gym has limited holiday hours tomorrow, so I'm headed there now. And my swimming gym has regular hours all weekend, so I'm hoping to go tomorrow.
No real holiday plans, usually I take my mother to the movie theater if it's a day we're not celebrating, but it doesn't seem like there's a lot of movies that she would enjoy. Although, next week Mafia Mama comes out, so I might wait and take her to that; it looks pretty funny and Toni Collete is always awesome.1 -
Hello Ladies,
Sorry I missed logging in on 04/07, as I planned (and sorry for adding a new post..I have no idea how to edit the old one, lol).
Weight for 04/07: 212.8 (though I am already above that now )
How do you guys feel about eating your exercise calories? I feel like I keep dipping into mine more than I'd like to...
@pamperedlinny I LOVE the face paints! My daughter is 9 also ans you're absolutely right, we need to cherish these moments while we can. Also, good on you for staying on track with Bible study night! All of the temptation would have been a lot to handle.
@CupcakeCrusoe Congrats on hitting your new lowest! That's amazing and I'd be thrilled to be where you are now. Hopefully this will make your vacation a little sweeter
@barbmessier I'm rooting for you! Imagine how you'll feel in May knowing you're not above 200
@swimmom_1 Welcome back! I've had lots of ups and downs too. As long as we keep getting back up, that's what matters.
@badnoodle Cookbooks really inspire me too. Of you have any suggestions, let me know. Right now, I am taking out my "Salads" book by Sue Quinn, to hopefully help me spice up my lunch as Spring goes into full

My name is Mary, 65 from Pennsylvania.
Been MIA for a few months but still logging in everyday since I started MFP 5/14/21.
Unfortunately lost my mojo and gained a lot back but not all Thank God! Need to get back on track and focused. I bought a NEW to me, gently used, Commercial PreCor EFX 835 Elliptical. It was delivered the beginning of November, as others here know I wore my previous 10+ year old one out from my extensive workouts. Back up to 150 minutes on my 3 days off per week.
Good to see some familiar names here and glad to see some new ones too!
Heaviest weight 255 lbs, twice. :-(
9/14/20-255 lbs
5/14/21-232.2 lbs
4/6/22- 147.6 lbs (107.4 lbs lost) I did NOT have a surgery. Did Keto.
8/1/22- 167.2 lbs
12/1/22-198 lbs
1/1/23- 213.4 lbs
2/1/23- 207.4 lbs
3/1/23-201 lbs Yippee!
4/1/23- 207.6 lbs Been struggling as you can see. :-(
4/2/23- 209 lbs. I need to get my head right and be more accountable to myself in this. I need to get back in control and off the carbs again. Back to my lower level of daily carbs(15g net +/- 3) and FOCUSED on what is best for me! Not short term enjoyment. Elliptical HIIT setting 150 minutes for 10.11 miles today (I do my elliptical like this 3x per week, on my off work days, pretty religiously. Thursday, Friday & Sunday this week).
4/9/23- 203.6 lbs Elliptical HIIT setting 150 minutes for 10.04 miles zones 2, 3 & 4. (Also on Friday & Saturday same elliptical time & mileage). Meat & low carb veggies for Easter lunch today but I had a piece of a Dominican Pineapple cake. OMG! Not rich and a whipped cream icing but moist as a Rum cake. So delicious! Worth the calories & Carbs IMO.

**I update whenever I lose
I’ve had a few days I haven’t stuck to plan in the past week. Not enough to take me off course, but enough to make me think about what I’ve been doing. Honestly, I think the stress of the parental visit is pushing me outside what I normally find acceptable. It’s like… I know I don’t need xyz but I am annoyed, stressed, pushing everything and everyone… then I eat. Also, my husband told me yesterday to stop being so pushy and demanding when we were walking into church and I was exasperated at my daughter leaving her bible in the car. He is literally the most patient human I’ve ever met and you have to push soooo many buttons for him to lose it. Which tells me it’s not just food I’ve been failing but also in my attitude towards everyone and everything. The parents should arrive either tonight or tomorrow (I’m betting on tonight) so it will either get way better or way worse. I’m going to make a conscious effort to think before I speak and before I eat. Really before I do anything right now. It’s apparent that I’m not putting my best foot forward so far this month.
I hope everyone had a fabulous Easter. Ours was spent finishing some prep and letting my daughter have 2 friends spend the night last night. That also will put her in a better and less anxious frame of mind before my parents arrive. She loves her grandparents but also gets overwhelmed and ends up having a meltdown or panic attack at least once when they are here. I’m hoping have her friends here last night and most of today, followed by her best friend coming on Friday night for next weekend will help give her a boost.
@Sissylynn1979 Welcome back!
@Aswennu I used to eat half my exercise calories. I think the Fitbit/myfitnesspal calculation gives me more than it should, so I justified that if I eat half of them back it all averages out. That worked for me for a long time.
Now I’ve started setting a limit that includes some exercise calories on an average…. I looked up my TDEE for my goal weight (both realistic and if I hit something amazing) then I looked at what my average calorie burn is, did a little math and what I would be happy with…. So I now try to stay in a range from 1200 to 1800 a day. Some days I burn 1000 calories in exercise and some days I lay on the sofa and do nothing. To keep maintenance at my goal weight would be 1500 to 1600 calories depending on which calculator I use. I just wanted a set plan that kind of puts it all in check and it maintainable long term without me putting so much thought into it. I wanted to learn how to eat at my future maintenance level. I’ll probably get there a lot slower but I’ll already know how to eat whenever I get there.

Pretty happy with myself this week. I exercised 5 times and I've kept my calories on track, just need to add more protein to my diet. If I had to boil it down to one goal this month is consistency ...the root of my problem.
Going to keep the same goals (minus the job one) for next week and probably all month. Hope everyone is doing well!

Easter has come and gone. My son came over and put new carpet down and also brought a garden cart that he'd made for me. He did a wonderful job! We had a nice ham dinner and I managed to control my eating but the neighbors invited me over later and I'm afraid I drank a little too much wine. Weight was up (significantly) this morning but could have been the salt in the ham.
@CupcakeCrusoe Re: “The way to get me to eat better is to make it a game.” I agree. Same here. I just came up with the idea of giving myself a smiley face sticker on my journal entry every time I lose weight that's lower than my lowest, even if it's just 1/4 of a pound. Just started so we'll see how that goes.
@Aswennu I’ll be happy with 205 by the first of May the way I’m going. Really having a hard time not putting my weight back on. My body seems to be fighting me. Wants me to be 270 like I used to be but IT AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN!
@swimmom I had to do a double take regarding your regaining some of the weight you'd lost. I did the math. In almost 9 months you put back on 65.8 pounds. That would have been enough to demoralize anyone and yet, "cudos to you", you jumped back on and got back on track! I'm rooting for you! I've been discouraged that I've been in a stalemate for the past 6 months where seems no matter what I do, I can't lose another single pound. I'm hoping my body stops fighting me and I start losing again. I'm trying every trick in the book!
@RavenStCloud Yes, consistency is what we need.3 -
Hi all. Hope you're all well and having a good April so far and crushing them goals!
My goals are to play beat saber and record it at least 4/5 times a week. when I do play beat saber I normally play for 1 hour and I'm dripping with sweat throughout the whole thing haha. If anyone would like to follow my page and channel it's here:
https://youtube.com/@VRoz1701
https://www.facebook.com/VRozzz
I'm mostly uploading playing beat saber. I'm really enjoying it and it's a very fun way to get my exercise in. beat saber is a virtual reality rhythm game. you have blocks coming towards you and you have to slice the blocks and match the colour and the direction of each block. I just started playing again 1 month ago. I'm normally playing on level hard or some songs expert.
have a great rest of the week everyone ❤️1 -

I just rejoined after a very long break. I had my first child may of 2020 and man the postpartum was very very bad. I lost about 60lbs after having my son but the last 30 just won’t come off, to be at pre baby weight.
I recently signed up for a weight loss challenge with the company I get my protein from and I really really want to win. It’s $6000 cash and $1000 gift card to their company. However I am finding it hard to find time to exercise like I used to when I have lost weight in the past. I have 2 jobs and an almost 3 year old. Busy does not even begin to explain things.
The dieting can sometimes be hard especially on the weekends. But for the most part I have been able to stick with it for the past week.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated and/or motivational support.3 -

Good morning all!
My parents contacted us around 6pm last night and said they decided to stop at a hotel after all. So they will be here by lunchtime today. I’m trying to remind myself that I love them. That we often get along great when certain topics and events aren’t part of the dialogue. I’m still stressed. We’ll see how it goes.
In happier news I did get my most recent blog posted this morning! It’s a recipe I’m sure everyone has seen a million times but it’s too tasty to ignore. So…. If you need another recipe for Mississippi Pot Roast feel free to check mine out at https://www.healthyeatingwithlinda.com/post/mississippi-pot-roast

Good morning everyone....back to my regular work schedule this week. Love working with my little patient...but working 5 days in a row (between 9 to 11 hours a day) just wore me out. Still made it to my Tuesday evening martial arts class last week. The meal planning and prepping really helped me stay on plan. I did get off track here and there, but stayed on plan for the most part.
I've been doing the free plan from the podcast (Losing 100 lbs with Corrine) and have almost reached my goal for April of losing 5 lbs. So may have to revisit that and make a new one for the end of the month.
We had a quiet Easter weekend. Saturday morning I did a few Instacart shops in between taking kiddos to work. Made some bbq ribs in NY instant pot for dinner. Sunday I went to church in the morning and sang with the choir for 2 services. Came home and did laundry, did a little work on my business and started dinner while waiting for my hubby to get off of work. Also did my meal plan for this week up to Wednesday. Will do the rest of the week after I go grocery shopping on Wednesday.

Hello everyone!
Andi from Illinois here.
I can’t remember the last time I posted.
I am a mess.
The Ozempic is making me sick. My doctor reduced my dose back down to 0.25mg/week and I completely skipped it last week. So yesterday I gave myself my dose, and I’m nauseous today.
Something has to give.
I am fighting another respiratory virus and am on my last day of Prednisone. This round I had to use my nebulizer, oxygen, and a humidifier. But I managed to stay out of the hospital.
I’m looking forward to walking outside now that the weather has broken, and getting back in the pool at the Kroc twice a week. Absolutely love it.3 -
@serenecompassion2663 so sorry that this drug is causing such upset. I think you’ve done well to stick with it so far.
I had a really busy Easter, with adult children and their families in our little house. I also found it quite stressful. Our youngest 2 are still at home anyway, and there were babies and dogs and lots of quite critical commentary about what I do. Thoroughly relieved to wave them off. Although Of course I love them. I am starting to feel that at 63 and 66, we ought to have just the 2 of us here. Don’t know how to make that happen, I may just get over it, I guess. Anyway lots of stress and lots of chocolate temptation and no chance to go swimming, led to some weight gain. I am confident it will come off, but I am around 210 in pounds, and need to be around 170, so gaining and losing the same 5 pounds is just boring! And unhelpful.2 -
Hi! Sorry it's taken forever for me to get back here. I just caught up with all the going-on here and there's lots of busy people out there!
my Goal update:
1. Make my bed (so far 10 days in a row) I started that last month so current streak is now 21
2. Spend 2-5 minutes doing ikigai exercises (Japanese) before doing Wordle (10 days) 21 day streak
3. 3. Hang up my robe after shower (10 days ) 21 day streak
4. Study French after checking email (372 Days) 383 day streak
5. Get morning sun / walk That hasn't happened yet. Hopefully with warmer mornings ahead, it will
6. Journal 4/11 days
7. Workout / classical stretch / yoga / tai chi Another fail, and this is so important. I must force myself to do better starting today
8. Be in bed by 11:00 I thought this would be really tough but I've been successful 9/10 days
9. added a new one! No eating after 8:00 (9:00 is OK if there are unusual circumstances 9/10 days
So basically I'm learning that I can trust myself to keep my promises to myself. I have a tendency to start and stop over and over so I think keeping track of a daily streak will show me that I can stay true to my word. Everything is "easy" except making myself get up and work out. With spring here, I'm sure I'll be getting outside a lot more so that will become easier, too.
My weight keeps fluctuating between 235.4-233.6. I haven't been eating a lot, but definitely lacking nutritional value what with the Easter candy in my house.
I had a tooth implant started last week and a wellness visit the next day where I got a prevnar 20 shot. I ended up with a fever for 3 days and my arm had a bright red, hard 3" circle around the injection site and redness to my shoulder, around to my armpits, to my elbow. My doctor said redness was normal and I should use heat and tylenol. NIce (not)! After a week today, it's starting to clear up but the injection site it still pretty big, just not hard anymore.
My blood tests were Ok but my doc has increased my statin from 10-20mg without discussing it with me. I'm pretty disgusted for multiple reasons. My cholesterol numbers had gone down when I was taking Metamucil every day but I quit doing that about 6 months ago and now it's back up. So I will cut the 20 mg pills in half, I think, since I have the new prescription but don't want to take the 20s, and will take Metamucil again and test in 3 month. My new doctor is very nice, but she doesn't yet realize I want to be involved in my health care and not make changes without a personal discussion. And then I always feel like since I've neglected myself (weight) for so long I don't deserve to have an opinion since I don't make the best choices. I know that's not true but it's in the back of my mind whenever I oppose something the doctor says. Times are achanging!6 -
@nebslp i love your goals with the running counts. Great job!

Good morning!
The parents arrived at 12:30 yesterday with the dog. My daughter has been walking around with the dog all day yesterday like a baby doll. Playing with him. Holding him. Running with him. I think she wore the poor thing out. So far so good. No drama as yet but we’ve stuff to topics and tv shows that aren’t controversial. They have already declared they believe they are leaving on Thursday afternoon instead of Friday morning. I’m both annoyed and relieved. The plan changed mid-way without any discussion, especially when their granddaughter is so excited to see them, is normal and annoys me. Then again, we can’t have a bunch of drama if they drive home earlier than expected. Ugh. Now I’m annoying myself.
Last night we went out to Cracker Barrel for dinner. I got the Smokey Southern Grilled Chicken with broccoli and carrots. No biscuits or cornbread. I did steal a few of the fried pickles my daughter wanted to order. Pretty good on calories, only 400 before the pickles. However, they brought me a crab pretzel from Baltimore and I know that eating that thing is going to be a lot of calories. I don’t even want to contemplate it yet…. But I do know that lunch is going to be seriously tasty.
@kelliward1 Sounds like you are staying busy.
@serenecompassion2663 I’m so sorry to hear it’s making you sick! Hoping you can get to truly feeling better soon. I’ve heard a lot of good things about Ozempic but I have also heard that it making people nauseous is fairly common.
@sandramarshall200 Sounds stressful. Hopefully now that the holiday is over you’ll get back to swimming and it not seem like so much at once.
@nebslp It sounds like you are getting to know yourself better and that’s always a good place to start off. The Easter candy is a temptation for me too. Even when it isn’t my favorite or something I particularly feel I NEED to have, just seeing it on the table is a problem. I moved all my daughter’s candy to a glass candy bowl with a lid. Something about taking the lid off it it makes me stop and pause so it’s working for now. Of course, when my daughter and her friends leave the lid off and wrappers all over for me to pick up is when I break down and eat some.
You absolutely deserve to be part of the discussion for your own health. If you know something worked in the past and can test to verify it’s working before your next appt, I say go for it. I changed doctors specifically because I had a doctor pushing meds every time I was there but I knew I could be off of them and still get my numbers (diabetic) under control. She actually seemed disappointed when I did it. Thankfully, I have a new doctor now. Do what works for you and your body. Doctors don’t always know everything and they don’t know your body the way you know your body.

Something unusual happened to me yesterday with regards to food. I had a project deadline, and missed lunch. I only had a piece of keto toast for breakfast, so I decided that I'd get myself the hot wings and fries that I have been craving like a mofo for two weeks. It's not a cheat, it's not a binge - I absolutely have the calories for it, though they are on the "generally avoid" list of my diet.
Friends, I responsibly ordered half my usual order. And while I did annihilate most of those fries, I ate exactly two hot wings before experiencing the feeling "I am full. I do not need to eat any more right now". AND I STOPPED EATING. As a historic binger, that's never really happened. I've never heard that little voice, much less wanted to obey it.
Now, I probably set myself up for success in this regard, since I take my weekly meds on Monday and they were at their peak yesterday. But it was still very strange to eat all the hot wings I wanted and all the fries I wanted...and still come in under calories for the day.

@serenecompassion2663 I hear you on the nausea. I found that a piece of keto toast or a bit of yogurt really helps with the Ozy nausea. Something easy to eat, but that gives your stomach something to do. Even when food sounds like an awful idea, it winds up helping in the long run.
@nebslp I would be furious if my doctor did that to me, almost to the point of finding a new doctor. Nobody should have to put up with medicinal gaslighting or patronization in 2023.
@roz0810 I've always wanted to play Beat Saber, it looks like so much fun!5 -
I saw a video the other day that talked about weight loss taking time and focus. While I can't locate it again, they talked about how you work out different muscles, but you have to remember to 'flex your patience muscle' as well.
I love this. Remembering that patience is something you absolutely can work at, and develop more of with practice, is such an awesome idea.4 -
I want so much to reach 205 by the end of the month. As it is, my body keeps wanting me to regain what I've lost, and I'm doing my best to fight it. According to the scale, I've put on 5 pounds in a week. I know that's not possible but it's demoralizing. Makes me feel like I'll never lose any more weight.
My biggest problem is night time eating. It doesn't matter if I've eaten early or late in the day, I still go crazy at night and eat anything I can find. I know I'm not really hungry, but I absolutely can't control myself. I'm like an addict. I HAVE to have something and then that's followed by something else until I feel guilty and stop. What am I to do?

Good morning!!!
So far my visit has gone ok. Mostly there has been no big drama. They were ready to bring my daughter a puppy yesterday. They even arranged to meet someone tomorrow afternoon to pick it up. We had to shut that down. IT HURT! My girl was so happy and so excited. She begged and offered me her life savings (not much but all she had). I hated telling her no. My husband was the bad guy with the final word. My parents had even showed her photos of the dog they were going to pick up. That's the only big drama though.
They are off to the appointment they came down here to do. We'll see what happens when they get back. They should be leaving either tonight or tomorrow morning to start back.
@badnoodle That’s such a wonderful win!!!!
@RavenStCloud “Flex your patience muscle” That’s a good way of thinking about it. Something else to exercise. I’ve never heard it that way but patience is so hard to master.

@pamperedlinny So sorry for you, and really sorry for your daughter. I would say that's HUGE drama-messing with your daughter's feelings.
They seem dreadful. This exact behavior is not uncommon; people frequently write AITA posts about parents and in-laws who try to get/have already bought their grandchildren pets without getting permission.2 -

I had to look up that acronym. I actually was on the end of buying my mom a dog.
She said something about "Daddy wanting her to get a dog." (We were at the Bloomsburg Fair and going through the Dog Show in late September) I thought "my daddy" and bought her a beautiful thick coated Auburn 1 year old Pomeranian from a couple that was moving to a No dogs allowed place. I knew my mom's family had one when she was a kid.
When we came in Christmas morning, with my 16 month old walking Shasta with a big red bow, she said, "Oh someone got a dog!" I said, "No you got a dog!" My dad said, "Oh No!" Then it came out she meant her daddy, way back! But she did love the dog and they went everywhere together! They had some good years! It could have turned on me and I could have had a dog sooner. (Which would have been ok too.) My dad ended up liking her company too. She would nap with him!
