Hi, Sherry and welcome to the MFP Community!
I started weight loss at 59, too, and joined MFP to help with that. It worked fine, for me. (I've been in maintenance for 7+ years now.)
Your enjoyment of kayaking and outdoor activities should help you on the fitness side of things. I like to row (skinny boats like in the Olympics, except mine is slow) and bike. For me, framing other fitness activities as making my rowing and biking better and easier is one way to get myself up and doing all kinds of active things.
Wishing you success!0
