My meals and recipe box

I was surprised when I added a recipe in the tab under food that while I can view it in my "recipe box", it doesn't show up as an option when I try to use the recipe name in my food diary. I believe when I created the recipe it said it would consider it as if it had to be approved for use by the community. There are a lot of things I eat on a regular basis that I would like to save as a meal or a recipe and be able to use as one line in my food diary. I searched the forums and it appears as if people are doing this and I must have done something wrong..... Also curious what the difference is in my meals vs. recipes...?
thanks,
Newbie Marcie:smile:

After entering the recipe it will ask if you want to submit it to the community, if you don't check this it will be for your own personal use. Hope this helps

A "meal" is a group of foods you regularly eat together. You can save these foods as a group which makes it easier to enter into your food diary. A "recipe" is when you calculate all the ingredients in a homemade dish. It will ask for the amount of servings and then break down the nutrients accordingly. You can pick the recipe, tell it one serving and it enters it into food diary. I did this at tonight's dinner with a cabbage and beef recipe I cooked in the slow cooker.

Hope this helps as I am new to MFP as well.

Thanks all! A tip for any newbie reading this - to use something in your recipe box, you have to go to the recipe and if you hover over it a "add to diary" will show up on the right and that is how you can use it in your food diary. I was trying to search for like I search for things in the MFP database and was initially confused when it didn't show up in the search results. Now I am using meals and recipes all the time! Works like a charm.
