Grams of sugar for stage 2 diabetes

Without having Diabetes I have 40 grams of sugar per day. That is a total from both table sugar and from fruits and veg.

The 40 grams is the recommended amount I should have per day. My first question is, the 40 grams per day, is that the recommendation from both types of sugar?

The second question, what would the amounts be if I had stage 2 diabetes?

Thanks
Bob

I do not have diabetes. The 40 groms of sugar that I now have came from inputs from the net, talking to people, recommendation
from MyFitnesspal. I was just trying to get a better understanding of sugar intake with and without diabetes.

    Thanks

    Bob,
Diabetics do not need to manage just their sugar intake but their total carb intake. How this is calculated is also affected by the amount of fiber and the amount of protein in the meal.
Take a look at the american diabetes association's website. There is plenty of good information available on their message boards.
What you need to know and what your goals are will be different for the different types of diabetes and will also be effected by you age and stage of life.
There is no one size fits all.

When I was type 2 Diabetic..I was put on 180g of carbs a day..you should talk to you Physician...this method worked for me but I was diligent and am no longer type 2..
  • I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes five weeks ago. While I do try to keep the sugars down, like 2hobbit1 says, carbs are the biggest factor, not necessarily sugar. For example, the apple that I eat for a morning snack has 17 grams of sugar, but it has less of an impact on my blood sugar than bagel I had that has 52 grams of carbs and no sugar. While it has been only five weeks, I have "experimented" every single day to see what works for me and a high protein/low carb diet seems to be doing wonders for me as I have gone from an average of 10.1 mmo/L (182 mg/dL) to 5.7 mmo/L (102 mg/dL) in that time. (My diet sucked before the doctor told me.) MFP says that I should be consuming no more than 51 grams of sugar per day. I have gone past that limit almost every day in the past four weeks, but my blood sugar has gone done because I have also gone under the carb recommendation every single day as well.

    Your mileage will vary.
