Mechanical versus digital

Human weighing as opposed to food weighing.

What do you use? Which is the more accurate?

Use a digital scale - cups and spoons can vary greatly and you can "pack" a lot more in with some types of foods as well as have less than you think with others. The weight of a food is not affected by shape or packability.

Sorry on reread I did pick that up and then couldn't edit since the site was down.

I don't think it makes all that much difference. I have used home spring scale that were reliable and others that were not reproducible. I have also used home digital scales that were good or bad as well. Each of these will be different from your MD's office scale that may be mechanical or if it is a newer practice a digital scale.

What matters most is that it gives you the same answer within a free ounces if you get on it several times in succession. You use it as a guide. But a better indication of progress is your measurements and your body fat %, your level of fitnes and your ability to perform the tasks required for daily life.

Scales don't need to be 100% accurate, but when you weigh yourself, use the same scale. If you use different scales, such as the one at home and the one at the gym, you may end up with different numbers and be disappointed.

Use the same scale in the same place at the same time of day. I don't think it really matters if it's digital or not.

    Thanks guys, good to know.

I was doing the same time/place/scale but after construction work in the house our scale got dropped and is now not reading properly, gave me 4 weights out of 5 tries with 4.5lb difference - I killed it :(
