What's in your calorie?

Observations from day one:

1) Getting all my calories from cotton candy technically works for meeting a calorie goal!

But healthy eating means my calories have stuff like protein or vitamins and minerals.

2) Frosted flakes and Maple flavoured oatmeal crisp have the same amount of sugar.

3) Grocery shopping needed .5km of walking. Not something I normally count has exercise. But the myfitnesspal app has a step tracker thing. Tried it at the grocery store.

    Hi, Chris. Welcome to MFP.

Consider how you’re logging and how you’re going at this.

The “Cheat Day” you mentioned on your other thread. One cheat day can totally sabotage what you’ve done in the preceding days. If you feel you need a cheat day, reduce your calories by 100 or so the week leading up to it and give yourself 600 or so extra calories on that one day.

And be cautious about logging things you normally do anyway as “exercise”.

I’ve seen folks here logging housework and shopping as exercise, and only seen one lady who does that successfully lose and maintain. I cleaned like a maniac for 40 years, sopped like a warrior, and was still obese for thirty of those. Recording housework as exercise would do me no favors. Housework and general walking is included under the activity level you selected to determine your calorie goal.
