Wanting to finish well!

I’m a 71-year-old woman who has had a LOT of big changes in my life in the last 5 years, including a move from SW Colorado to Louisville, KY last year. I have been the classic yo-yo dieter for close to 60 years, so I’m currently challenging myself to lose 35-40 pounds and make it permanent. I’m participating in VShred, and I modify the exercise plans while still getting a good workout. I’m down 8 pounds in 3 weeks and hope to average a sustainable 1-2 pounds per week.

Congratulations on your success so far - it sounds like you have a good plan going.

Finding the things we can continue contentedly long term - new personalized eating and activity patterns - is IMO the key thing when it comes to long-term success.

As far as losing, what matters IMO is keeping tactics sustainable long enough to lose a meaningful total amount of weight. It sounds like you're already making that kind of plan. It's pretty normal to lose a bit more in the first couple of weeks, but settling it down to more like a pound a week - if 35-40 is the total you have to lose - is a good idea, going forward. (2 pounds a week could be a little aggressive.)

I'm close to your age, 67 now, but at a different stage, having joined MFP at 59, lost around 50 pounds in a bit under a year, and maintained a healthy weight since.

    Wishing you success!
