ALL TRUE .. yet, it's also true that it's the overconsumption of carbs that causes insulin resistance and diabetes. Also to what people helplessly refer to 'food addictions' when they cannot stop eating their trigger foods. I've never heard someone having steak as their trigger to eat mindlessly, but I know plenty of folks (including myself) that abuse themselves with overconsumption of carbs that are loaded with flours or sugars ..
That said ... Carbs are a necessary and nutrient-rich source of energy that I enjoy every day ... and I try to limit those that are my triggers for indulgence as best I can.

Carbs covers such a wide territory. Sort of like exercise is good. Breathing is a form of exercise and usually thought of as good. Running for your life from a lion maybe not so much.1

I understand that eating carbs is bad for some people (because it spikes their appetite), because they say so and I have no reason to disbelieve them. I also understand that some people have to manage carbs because of some health condition (such as diabetes or insulin resistance), though that doesn't necessarily make eating any carbs "bad" even for them.
I don't actively manage my carb intake, just have protein and fats minimums I strive to hit, and as long as calories work out OK, I don't care where my carb intake ends up. Most of the carbs I eat come from beans, fruit, oatmeal, nonfat Greek yogurt, skim milk, veggies, and that sort of thing. Some are flours and added sugars, but a small fraction of my typical day. I try to eat 800 grams or more of veggies and fruits daily, usually succeed. They have a lot of carbs!
Usually I eat around 50% of calories from carbs, in maintenance 225 grams plus most days. They don't spike my appetite, my blood sugar values are fine, I didn't need to cut carbs to a low level in order to lose or maintain weight, and I find my carb sources tasty, filling and nutritious.
So, yes, carbs are good for me to eat.
Are they good for you to eat? You can decide.3 -

Ladies, ladies! MFP makes every attempt to remain a family friendly forum. Such flirtatious comments might be better suited to Chit Chat.
I can overeat just about anything from time to time. And lately it's been way too many triggers, but the steak sure sounds worth being triggered. Even more so lately, we've been trying to cut back on beef due to the sustainability issues. The carb and/or fat heavy foods are everywhere, and I think that's why it's so easy to overeat them for some.

This just doesn't seem a yes or no poll question to me.
Almost everybody eats some carbs, even those on keto or low carb diets.
How much, which carbs, etc - but can't answer with yes or no.1 -

If people overconsume carbs in the form of processed carbs the pancreas pumps out a lot of insulin in a quicker time interval and if a person has been eating this way most of their lives, like most Americans as an example, Canada and GB is right there as well, then what we have going on is what's called hyperinsulinemia which is the precursor to insulin resistance and diabetes.
In other words, the constant high output asked by our beta cells to tackle high blood sugar takes it toll and eventually blood sugar rises slowly over time. By the time someone is diagnosed with insulin resistance or diabetes this hyperinsulinemia has been going on for years. They use to call it "adult onset diabetes" because diabetes basically only ever happened as you got older, but that was a different era. Probably getting children tested with a c-peptide test for hyperinsulinemia from their PCP would be imo a good preventative measure.
Is it the cause of diabetes, well, if it also created an environment where gaining weight was evident to a high proportion or percentage of those people and considering people consume around 70% of their calories from processed and ultra processed food and with about 75% of the population overweight and obese there certainly is a correlation and it looks like that 900 lb gorilla in the room correlation imo.

Haha, yeah maybe. The opposite happens in the carnivore community actually but clears up rather quickly. It happens when you drastically deviate from a persons standard way of eating quite a bit of the time until the gut become better equipped to deal with the change. Anyway, I tried the carnivore diet 2 years ago for 60 days as an experiment and while I didn't have any gut issues I lost around 10lb and I was actually trying to keep my weight stable as part of that experiment, and didn't succeed, lol. cheers.0 -

lol, so where is that chart that shows all eating approaches end up with weight gain unless you eat less than you burn?
going back to the 70's, the women in our family tried so many diets that were protein heavy, aka meat, aka the times we indulged in Steaks! Stillman, Atkins, So. Beach. The diets kind of say, hey, you don't have to count calories, eat these foods... and darn, I easily gained on them all. Steak, um, yum!2 -

The diets kind of say, hey, you don't have to count calories, eat these foods... and darn, I easily gained on them all. Steak, um, yum!
Yep, most people can't stick to any diet especially when all the yummy foods are what people give up, people like yummy foods, yummy food wins almost all the time.0
