New to MyFitnessPal

Hi I'm new to this, I have tried a few different apps and diets. Nothing seems to work. I am over 50 past menopause and the past few years with covid have been difficult to get out and get active. I am now trying hard to get active. I bought a treadmill and mini trampoline (which I am able to use and follow a video for beginners for the elderly). I did keto a few years ago and lost 20 pounds, but with covid it came right back on. I would really like to get back to being healthy and active so I can spend more time with my grandkids.

Hi, Marykaye, and welcome to the MFP Community!

What do you see as the roadblocks that have caused the other apps and diets not to work for you?

There are quite a few people/women here over 50, in menopause, who have been able to be successful with MFP. (I'm one, lost 50ish pounds at 59-60, now 67 and still maintaining a healthy weight after around 3 decades previously of overweight/obesity.)

Still, our individual preferences, strengths and challenges can mean that different approaches work for different people, which is why I've asked what I did.

For me, getting my eating in line with my activity (calorie wise) was the key thing for weight loss. It seems like - from reading posts here over the years I've been a participant - a common pitfall is starting out with a really aggressive plan to lose weight fast, restrict food choices only to things perceived as healthy, and maybe even add a bunch of intense exercise on top of that . . . which just isn't sustainable for long enough to lose a meaningful total amount of weight. For people like me with a tendency toward overweight, finding strategies I thought I could continue forever was really essential.

I'm hoping MFP will be the right app and Community for you to achieve long term success: I'm cheering for you!
