I’m sorry to hear of your struggles.

I support your goals, but let me ask you - is now the right time for you to be working on this? Your top priority will be healing, including any physical therapy you may need to do.

A possible goal for you might be to maintain your current weight while recovering. And come back to us when you are ready.

    Your thoughts?

How long ago was the accident? Do you have broken bones? If it was recent and you're still healing you should not be dieting. Your body needs all the energy it gets for healing, your bones need enough nutrients as well. Give it time!

As others have said --- you can't work on everything all at once...so depending on the severity of your current health issues/recovery needs, losing weight might not be what you should be prioritizing. Get better. Then you can worry about your weight.

Sounds like you're feeling very low, and with your health issues that is understandable. Could you give yourself a little grace? You've been through a traumatic car accident that upended your life. That's really hard.

But while you may be down, you're not out. You can definitely make some changes with what you eat. You can choose a calorie goal that isn't punishing. Keep some of your favorite foods. None of this needs to be more unhappiness on top of what you're already dealing with. In fact, making some small changes will hopefully spark some happy anticipation within you. You could try adding some gentle movement on a consistent basis. Small changes are so valuable.
