How to log steps not time/distance in the app

Medically, my doctor has me tracking steps---not distance or time. How is this done in the exercise counter? I have made multiple attempts, but "steps" will not come up.
@newkid67 the easiest way would be to sync your step counter with MFP. What are you using to count your steps? I use FitBit and have it synched to MFP. On the phone app go to More / Steps / Add a device. I'm not sure how to do it on a PC but I'm sure someone here does. Or you could do a quick search and I'm sure instructions would pop up.1
