How do I add info to my profile and how do I message ppl?

Coming back after a long hiatus and things here have changed. If I want to put some info about me in my profile such as hobbies how do I do that? Also, if I think someone seems cool and I want to see if they'd like to be friends how do I message them?

    Hi @carolinepowell885 welcome back.

I use the iOS app, and we can click on our profile pic, then click “profile” and edit it. You can also get to it via the main menu in the app.

You cannot normally message people unless you’ve actually been accepted as a friend (although I’m getting intermittent messages lately 🤦🏻‍♀️). That was because of pornbots two or three years ago, which were sending out mass (and explicit) messages via friends requests, hence that function was disconnected. You can still type something in the friends request box but that potential friend will very likely never see what you typed.

To make a friends request, click on the person’s avatar, then click again to view profile, and then click on the plus sign. Again, don’t bother sending a message with the request.

When I add a friend, I immediately drill down into their history to see if they are actually posting, playing nicely, or are shilling supplements, “good times”, seeking gullible females to befriend and fleece (you’ll know when you get a fast vague response like “hey! How are you doing!”) or are “Friend Collectors”. If I don’t like what I see for whatever reason, I immediately delete them as a friend.

Once someone is a friend, click their button and press the message button.

Be prepared for friends to come and go. Many don’t even last a week.

    Don’t be that person. 😜

Well alrighty then. Decided it was time to update my own profile and I can’t get in either.

This appears to be something you have to do via the .com site. I can access that via safari and make changes that way but not via IOS.

I'm not a friend collector, but lately I've been thinking about the dozens of people a day who post one time "Hi, I'm new here blah blah." And that is their only post. They never log in again.

There is an introduction category in the chat, but how many active users hang out there. I never have.

If one or two of them see a quick friendly reply, they may investigate MFP a little more.

It's hard, because even if we do spend time there, and quickly reach out...90% of them still just go away.

Your helpful post on images was great, thanks.

That makes me so sad. People come here either so enthusiastically, or already berating themselves for being here. And then they are gone the same day they set up their account.

Chris, several members here do try to greet new members. But TBH, it gets really discouraging for the reason above.

You put your heart and soul into a post answering some question or other they have, other users chime in with useful info, but you later realize, 95% never even came back to read it.

I wish I had a 3d interactive slap-em-upside-the-head way of showing my before and after to make them sit up and pay attention, including the mental and energy boost I got from substantial weight loss. Kinda like a Princess Leia hologram with feelz, lol.
