Slimfast 2023

There doesn’t appear to be an updated group for users of Slimfast so I thought I’d create one. I’ve tried lots of different diets over the years, with various levels of success. I must admit I am genuinely enjoying the flavours of the Slimfast products and I am actually finding that I am not hungry.
So if anyone wants to join here for comments, support or just guidance, feel free 😊

Not sure if you'll find many, but it's worth a try. I've mostly used slimfast as a meal replacement when I couldn't eat (I liked them better than ensure😂)1

I'm sure that sooner or later someone will chime in and say how eating real food is better than shakes. As for me, I am at goal weight and LOVE Atkins plus protein shakes and yes, I will continue to drink them even though I'm not trying to lose weight. BTW my husband needs to gain weight (we're really old) and prefers them to Boost. The Atkins plus are fairly new I think, 30g of protein and 7 g of fiber, only comes in Vanilla and chocolate and is more expensive than the regular shakes but I love them.0

There needs to be context. As a direct comparison to food, it will be the food your comparing with the type of protein supplement your using, but generally speaking food will be better than protein powder in the context of the actual nutrition found in both and also why protein powders are classified as a supplement. You and your husbands situation relies on other factors, like first and foremost your both "really old" and your husband needs to gain weight.
Muscle strength is an independent risk factor regardless of muscle mass and in the "very old" that translates into bad things happening like fractures from falls and 2/3 of those people die within the first 3 months. Basically this is where exercise can outrun a bad diet, strength is king in old age along with Vo2 max. The combination of protein intake and physical activity is known to increase muscle mass and function and good muscle mass and function reduce frailty and improve balance, thereby reducing the risk of falls and subsequent fracture and that's only one example of many. Most older people's diets leave a lot to be desired and protein is probably the macro that gets ignored the most, so a supplementation of protein powder is a good thing in this context but consuming more protein and specifically lean meat if your not a plant based eater would be a good thing and some attempt an an exercise that can stimulate better muscle protein synthesis for maintenance or growth. imo. Cheers

I agree, but also the reality is that after 75 or so some weird switch gets flipped and people just plain can't eat as much. Most of my friends are in the 80s and some even active 90s and have to take suppliments just to get calories in. So lean protein is not longer the gold stamdard. A 4 oz peice of chicken breast now seems like an all you can eat buffet, so now the grilled chicken is bone in skin on thighs, burgers are ground chuck (I grind my own so can good it rare) and a bonus to duck breast is duck fat roasted potatoes. Husband is technically in normal BMI, but has been told to gain about 10 pounds, I am 10 pounds overweight (bones of a teenager according to latest scan) and have been told not to lose any weight.
I only posted that because the usual response is to eat "real food" followed by "you can't expect to drink shakes forever" . Well, a portion of the population will have to drink shakes forever because we just don't have the same appetite.
