New Memeber

Hi, Everyone, I would like to intoduce myself. My best friend who is overweight collapsed and was rushed to hospital. He is now diating and has lost some weight.I think of my friend's wakeup call as one for me too. I have reduced my sugar intake to almost zilch. When shopping I check the lables for calories and sugar content. I find it frustrating because the majority of foods are doused in sugar. I have substituted sweets and chocolate with nuts. My father had a sweet tooth and had diabetes. Diabetes has a huge dementia risk and my father sadly contracted it. I walk every day and I am not overweight. I do, however, wish to heed warning to my friend and father's situation. For me, it is about prevention rather than cure. If anyone could, please answer this questions. I'm thinking of also replacing sweets and chocolates with dried fuits. Dried apricots, raisens etc. I notice on the packets there is sugar. Are these sugars safe naturally occuring ones or should I treat dried fruit as one would sweets?
