Hi, this must be obvious.... But do calories burned in steps count towards exercise calories? My step tracker doesn't sync with my fitness pal (very old Huawei) but I wondered if I could add the step calories under exercise. Thoughts?

It depends. Your activity level is going to account for a certain amount of general movement so some steps would already be accounted for. Even if you're set to sedentary, that activity level will account for roughly 3K-5K steps.
If these steps are consistently part of your daily movement I would just adjust your activity level accordingly. For example, with a daily walk and my other daily movement I pretty consistently get around 10K steps daily which is on the high end of lightly active...so I would just set my activity level to lightly active and wouldn't bother logging anything for exercise.
If part of your step count is a daily walk and perhaps you aren't particularly consistent with it, I would just log that walk...and I'd log it by miles, not steps...1
