I'm having trouble figuring out how many calories I should be taken in. I'm 156 and would like to get down to 130. I'm 41 years old and 5'3. I'm very active person. Lifting 3x a week, running 4 days a week with one day being 10+ miles. I'm currently taking in 1600 calories. I was starting to think that wasn't enough but when I started to increase my calories I gained 3 lbs.

Gaining a little weight when you shift your caloric intake isn't a bad thing. The liver has to work to accommodate the shift in carbohydrate balance and it does so with water, which usually leads to a transient increase in body weight. This also includes a subsequent boost to the metabolic rate! Based on your activity level it's likely you do need a few more cals for recovery and might even be overreporting how many cals are actually in your meals. It's can happen easily! Check out this podcast episode as it talks about some of the elements that might be troubling you! Sending a FR

How quickly did you gain 3 lb? It would take a few weeks to put on 3 lb or fat. If you are definitely in a deficit then this number could be related to extra food in your digestive track or even menstrual cycle.1
