Data Sharing?

I'm an 83yo male and overweight. I started my journey about mid April at 281# before I knew about MFP. I have a couple of issues I'm hoping can be resolved..
1. I've put MFP on my iMac desktop. This doesn't make for easy data input when I take a trip.. I have to log everything and add when I get home.. Tougher with a 2 week trip. The question is.. If I add MFP to my iPhone.. is there a way to transfer my data from the desktop to the phone or iPad (should I chose that vs the iPhone)?
2. When I add foods for my daily consumption at the end of a meal they seem to all go under a generic list. After a meal I may have to search 3 or more pages of food to find what I'm looking for. I can't simply type that food up in the search as it will go to a database and I'll simply be guessing again. The question is.. is there a simple way to move my foods from that generic (?) list where I've added my food items into MY FOODS?

I'm having success.. as of today I'm down from 281 to 255. My goal is 210.

There it is.. two simple (?) questions and, hopefully, two simple answers.

Thanks.. two simple questions with, probably, no simple answers.

Hi, @WA7WS welcome to MFP! Hurrah! I have simple answers!!!!

If you download the iOS app to your phone and/or tablet and use the same user name and password, you’ll find the data migrates between all devices. It’s very easy.

Once you’ve logged a food to your diary, you should be able to recall it simply by typing the first few letters of the word in search. Search will recall the most recent instances of that food.

As you build your database, and pull up a food, if you’ll scroll down on the food, you’ll also be offered options of other foods you frequently eat with the first one. Just hit the radio button to select the additional foods, then go back to your diary and edit the quantities as needed.

For example, if I put “carb” in the search, it automatically returns Carb Smart tortillas. When I select that, a drop down box appears so I can enter the quantity of tortillas, and below that, it will suggest chicken breast, ham slices, cheese, mayo, popcorn and other items I frequently eat in or with my lunchtime wrap.

Tbh, I’ve never added foods to “My Foods” because the search bar is so intuitive.

The only caveat is, if I go out of town for a couple of weeks, a lot of my favorite foods drop off the suggestion list, but they’re easy to find again once you’ve done this for a while.

    Hope this helps.

    You’re doing superlatively well!!!!!!

    Good post by @springlering62.

Just for clarity, what she's saying is true for the MFP app that you can download/install onto your Apple or Android phone/tablet or Apple laptop/computer.

If you're using MFP in a web browser (on any device), it works a little differently. I mention this because some of what you're describing doing now sounds more like the web browser version, though I'm not sure.

No answers but I feel your pain. I'm also a senior and use my laptop (because the phone is just too darn small to see and there are no buttons) I have the app downloaded to my phone because we travel, but I just use that to check in. I have never figured out how to log food and such on the app so I just use the laptop. Maybe using your ipad you would still be using the browser MFP. My recipes and meals did transfer to my phone but I'm old and hate the phone.

Hey, I just downloaded and joined today. In answer to 1, I input my lunch on the desktop and when I checked my phone it was there. From the phone, I added a food just to see what would happen, and when I refreshed on the desktop, the added item was there.

On 2, I will monitor and see what the experts say. I'm no help whatsoever. Keep up the good work, you are doing great. I am inspired.
