On some people, but not this guy. And my hair is leaving quickly!

So, is anyone out there experimenting with a hair-loss remedy? I have been looking into several, but hoping to get some real testimonials before I make a decision.

Thanks in advance.

Some guys I know had success with minoxidil and some with that drug that helps to keep Dht from attacking the follicles. I tried both and neither really worked and were a hassle so I just stopped worrying about it. I substitute hair with being in great shape. Bottom line is don’t worry about it.

Is your hair leaving quickly because that's what happens to men in your family at this age? If so, advice above is good.

If you're not getting enough protein, B vitamins, or certain other micronutrients, then eat more foods that bring those things to optimal levels. (Nutrition from food is a better plan than supplements, for a variety of reasons. Supplements are for the cases where you can't sufficiently improve nutrition by changing eating patterns.)

If you're not sure how you're doing, logging your food here should help. Not all the relevant vitamins and minerals can be tracked here, but once you have a food diary, you can periodically spot check typical days (using outside-MFP resources such as the USDA Food Central Database **). That will give you a decent idea.

Also, you can ask your doctor to run nutrition-related blood tests for some of the relevant nutrients. Do that before you make a lot of changes, definitely before you start taking supplements, so that you have a non-distorted baseline picture. The test results will help you understand what needs most attention.

Finally, if you're here to lose weight, are trying to lose weight fast, and your hair thinning is happening faster alongside weight loss . . . don't try to lose weight so fast. Too-low calories can lead to brittle hair that breaks off and thins. Extra-low calories (for fast loss) also make it tougher to get overall good nutrition from food.

Hair thinning is a pretty common side effect of very fast loss, and it's one of the least bad of a range of possible health issues that too-fast loss may trigger. If that's part of your situation, the increased hair loss is a canary in the coal mine: Change course before worse side effects happen.
