Hello everyone! I've been using the app for over a year and a half.....I'm down 126.0 pounds. I'm at the beginning of learning to maintain....would love suggestions on how to deal with maintenance. Not close to what My Fitness Pal suggests for maintenance calories.

When I move to maintenance I do it slowly, add 100 calories and stay there for a few weeks, then add another 100, etc. i watch for the weight loss to stall so I know i hit the right number. the mfp recommendation is just an estimate. i find that continuing to log and measure my food in maintenance is necessary for me0

Welcome to the boards, Bonnie!!!! You’ve done so wonderfully well!!!
There’s a board here devoted to maintenance:
https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/categories/goal-maintaining-weight
The single best tip I got here was Treat maintenance like you still have ten pounds to lose
That has really stuck with me and has proven to be true.
The other thing that kills me, reading these boards regularly as I do, is the number of people who lost the weight, slacked off, and return with “Back Again!” posts.
I accept that I will be weighing and logging for the rest of my life. I will not be overweight or obese again. Period. Back Again is not on my agenda and I’m willing to put the effort in to keep it that way.
I’m grateful I’ve gone slow and built up habits that are staying with me. I’ve also discovered, the longer I’m in maintenance the more I have to be aware of calorical ups’n downs and be prepared to adjust as needed. I keep a tight 2-3 pound range on my weight. Weighing myself regularly and continuing to log keeps that all under control.
You’ll also find, the longer you’re in a fairly tight maintenance, your body will continue to respond and change. Skin gets less loose, heck, my feet magically shrank a size a couple months back. I’m also discovering I can add a few more calories and not gain- again keeping tight rein on all of it.
If you want some inspiration and insight, be sure to read the NSV (non scale victories) thread over on Success Stories.0
