Fitness While Sick

A few months ago, I had gotten ill. I suspect it came from eating undercooked chicken. The result was a high fever with vomiting and other unpleasant symptoms I won't go into detail here. Let's just say anything I consumed that wasn't crackers or ginger ale was rendered irrelevant.

It lasted under a week, thankfully. While I consider it a pro that the fever helped with the caloric burn due to the need to burn them to maintain it, the involuntary purging was a definite con. I hadn't felt up to working out, though my loss was 5 pounds that particular week.

I got to thinking about the future and was wondering what I should do next time. It is estimated that at my current rate, I should reach my goal weight by the end of March and while I hope I won't get sick again in the meantime, it is not a sure thing.

Would working out have been good for me? The rising body temperature might've killed the bacteria quicker or I might've hurt myself more. Foodwise, are there any other items aside from ginger ale and crackers that help? Something that can help with nausea and/or is easier to digest?

Also, I found I had some trouble keeping even water down. Sports drinks or even Pedialyte next time?

when you're sick, you're sick..get your mind out of the minutia of day to day...people say "lifestyle"...that means a very ****ing long time...like "lifetime"...how you live your life overall...not day to day minutia...when you're sick, you're sick....when there's a party, there's a party...when you go to the ball game, you go to the ball game, etc, etc, etc, etc...get your mind out of the ****ing minutia and wrap it around your lifestyle...

Trying to work out while you are not getting enough nutrients and are likely dehydrated is definitely not a good idea. The few calories you absorb are better served in helping your body cells fight the infection.

I think what you did this time was basically right i.e. focus on staying hydrated, resting and focusing on getting better.

As for additional suggestions, pedialyte or sports drinks (if you can keep them down are definitely a good idea. They both contain vital salts that you are likely loosing and sports drinks also contain glucose (i.e. more calories). And eat whatever you can keep down.

Basically anything that adds liquids and calories would be helpful.

Also, take it easy initially with exercising immediately after coming out of a sick spell. After not getting sufficient nutrients for a week, your body will need a few days to get back to equilibrium.
