Tip: Check the x date on the Herbal Life? Seriously, that stuff has been around since I was a kid in the darkest of dark ages. I didn’t even know it still existed.

May you have better success with it than my mom did.

What helped me was simply logging what I ate in a typical day, and realizing how many calories I was taking in versus what was required simply to maintain as a very sedentary older adult. Doing that helped me make the leap to “oh my gosh, it takes how long or how much effort to burn off two Oreos?” And to also recognize that a serving of Oreos was only 2 (!!!) cookies, versus the family pack I was gonna knock down without even thinking.

Once that realization hit I started to make changes. Diet soda, teas, and more water versus five or six cans of coke a day. Carefully counted smoothie or protein pancakes for breakfast versus three cinnamon twists, a loaf of white mountain bread and a couple packets of Geneva cookies for breakfast.

I cut sweets out completely for a time.. won’t lie. It was hard. Now I make sure I have something sweet several times a day, whether it’s fruit or a small candy bar or I make room elsewhere for a big bakery cookie.

Added in more vegetables, lots of small side salads (my husband joined me on MFP and we each have a bowl of greens & cherry tomatoes and some zero cal dressing almost every night as a side dish. Satisfying, tasty, crunchy side dish for about 20 calories. 👍🏻)

I started walking to get the calorie divide between incoming and outgoing a little broader, and as I lost weight, added more activity and more steps. As the weight dropped, activity wasn’t so painful or such a chore and I kept increasing activity.

Weighing my food and logging my calories was an eye opener for me. I’m happy to say, I can eat what’s in the grocery and don’t have to rely on powders or disappointing multi level marketed products.

Welcome to MFP. You’ve got a shedload of options when you use up that batch of herbal life. I’m betting it goes to the back of your cupboard pretty quick. 😜
