"Somebody" suggested that running on the incline treadmill for long distances is.....well, too difficult.
Do u run on the inclined treadmill? How fast and what % incline? and what is your goal, and cool-down speed and % incline?
lemme start:
4.5 mph @ 4.5 % incline, then cool-off at 3.7mph @ 4.5 % incline
goal would be: 5-6 mph @ 5-6 % incline.
how about you?

When I run on the treadmill, my goal is working on increasing speed, so no incline for me … I do most of my running outside, when weather permits, so I deal with the inclines as they come.

If you want to run on an incline and it doesn't cause you problems, I see nothing wrong with it. Just not my thing

Running on the treadmill aggravates my shins and usually leads to shin splints, so I don't use the treadmill anymore. When I did, I always had a 2-3% incline just because the flat treamill was too awkward. I am strictly an outdoor runner now. I have a 1/2 mile long hill I tackle about once a week that's a 5% incline in two sections. It's brutal in the mid day heat!!

Walking on the treadmill with an incline kills my poor knees and also my shins.
  • I can't run on the treadmill because I have degenerative arthritis and bone spurs in my back. So, I walk on my treadmill with speed set between 3.8 and 3.7 beginning at 8% incline and then increasing by .5% every mile until I reach 10%. My goal is 4.75 miles total.

I do lower the % the last mile to cool down. I don't have any problems with my back, knees, or hips. I sweat a lot, get a good work out with this routine.
