Is a low calorie diet good for a long time?

I had some not so great health news back at the beginning of May this year. It made me kick start getting fitter and healthier. I was over 15st and my BMI was over 32. I had high cholesterol, high blood pressure and high blood sugars and was told I was prediabetic and very close to diabetic. I have to go back for retests in September and hoping to avoid statins, and possibly insulin.

I started the Michael Moseley Low Blood Sugar (under 40g carbs per day, lots of protein and good fats) 800 Cal a day diet 12 wks ago. I moved up to 1600 Cals a day about 7 wks ago as I started training 3 to 4 days a week. I am still eating less carbs - between 60g and 100g per day and lots of protein, but struggling to get up to 1600 Cals as I feel full.

I have lost 2.5st, but need to figure out what it best to eat and carry on training, to lose a little more weight and get in shape.

Any advice is welcomed. I know I’m probably doing this all wrong.

Is there a PCP involved? No it's not ok consuming 800 calories for long durations. 12 weeks is generally max and normally under doctors supervision, and why I asked. Low carb diets are the go to diets with health issues your describing in pretty much all the lifestyle clinics that deal with metabolic issues. You might look into MCT oil (medium chain triglycerides) which have a few benefits but one that might help is for exercise, they get metabolized like a carb through the liver and increases energy, I used it, and definitely helps when I workout. Anyway it's normal to feel full on low carb but generally a little fat goes a long way calorie wise, you might try that. 1 tbsp has 120 calories. Also patience. Cheers.

So, you did his 800 cal program for 5 weeks and a 1600 cal program for 7 weeks, right?

That’s pretty aggressive losing nearly 3lbs a week. If you’re obese I wouldn’t aim for anything more than 2lbs a week unless monitored by a doctor. I know you’re scared and going back in September but it might be worth a call to your doctor with a verbal update and see what they say?
