Healthy food is subjective because what one eats may conflict with what someone else eats. IE a vegetarian doesn't think meat is healthy to eat whereas a carnivore eater doesn't think carb laden foods are healthy to eat.

OP, it's not so much that individual foods are either healthy or unhealthy. It's that different foods offer varied benefits or (maybe) risks.

What really matters IMO is the whole picture, your typical overall eating patterns on average over a day or few.

    Context and dosage matter.

For an IM triathlete, sometimes pure sugar (and a decent amount of it) is exactly the healthiest choice. But for a couch-sitter, lots of sugar may be a really bad plan.

If your overall eating is calorie appropriate and has given you the nutrients you need, having a cookie doesn't cancel out broccoli.

I do, though: I think meat is healthy to eat, as part of an overall nutritious total way of eating. But I'm a long time vegetarian (49 years).

    I take your point, though.
