Special Education Teacher in Philadelphia

Hi everyone, I'm Jessica and I am a special educator and an at home health aide for adolescents with autism.
I am not new to the site, but I wanted to see if there were other special educators, teaching assistants, behavioral therapists, mobile therapists, respite workers, and other staff from the Philadelphia area. I have had the pleasure to work with some amazing and inspiring individuals over the last 10+ years and it has made my life that much better. While the work I do is very rewarding, it can also be stressful and emotionally draining- I just care so much about the special needs population I work with, and want to do everything I can to improve their lives. If you are in the field and are here for a journey to better health, I'd love to hear from you. Feel free to add me as well. Thanks!

  • well , I am hardly in your area but I too have been teaching SEN now for 20 years, recently returned from the middle east and prior to that special and mainstream UK .I found teaching children with autism the most challenging child education I have ever done and I had the bruises on occasion to show for it.I also teach tai chi out of school to vulnerable groups /individuals and recently I have just moved over into teaching the elderly, so my last post was kindi , my present , over 70 years , some with dementia , its a new post and I am excited but worried about the challenges it will bring.

That is quite an impressive career you have had with special needs/ at risk/ vulnerable individuals. I agree that working with individuals with autism is quite challenging, mainly because every single person with autism is different and will not respond the same way to interventions. The tai chi sounds like an awesome endeavor and that is quite a range of people you have served with your former and current post. I really commend anyone who is that dedicated to helping the special needs etc population in general. Don't worry about not being local, I am glad to hear from you!
