Competitor Group Ends Support for Elite Fields

This is just another reason why I won't run any "races" put on by this organization.

On the one hand, it's their business--they can run it any way they want. And they are under no obligation to "develop runners" as the article seems to imply.

OTOH, anyone who disagrees with their approach and doesn't like their way of doing business is equally free to use that as justification for not supporting any of their events. It seems extra sleazy to terminate the support in the middle of a season with little or no advanced warning, but I don't know all the details.

ALWAYS a good idea to know who is running your event and why. I suspect that a lot of people are not aware that these "races" are privately-owned, often for-profit, races. (See: Color Run).

I would also be very curious about the relationship between these companies and the city governments where they stage their events. An event like a half-marathon has a fairly large footprint and requires a lot of cooperation from municipal governments, police departments, etc. I would think that if these are for-profit, private undertakings, they should be paying full retail for things like traffic control, cleanup, etc.
