Hi, I too have hypothyroid. What I find works for me is maintaining a mostly GF diet, weights mixed with cardio, eating as natural as I can (avoiding processed foods). I found in my 3 yrs since I started this journey that eating as clean and natural as I can really has helped with my energy levels, bloating, and fatigue. Another reason when I cook at home I try to eat fresh veggies, fruits, nuts, beans, greens (kale, baby chard, spinach), tomatoes, cucumbers, sunflower seeds, sweet potatoes, etc. You get the point. I sent you a friend request. I have been diagnosed since I was 25 and I am now 38. I have really found there is no shortcut but just staying active, eating as natural and raw as I can, and getting enough sleep. :) Hope that helps!
  • I was diagnosed with Graves Disease when I was 22 and my thyroid was radiated one year later. I've been on daily synthetic hormone since then (almost 30 years ago now) with fluctuations every now and then. The weight loss has been a struggle. I lost a significant amount of weight 5 1/2 years ago but have gained 30+ pounds that I'm trying to lose now. My thyroid levels have been outside the normal range for the last few months so the DR is playing with my medication levels. It's tough because it's such a huge factor in your weight loss efforts. It doesn't have to help me but I'd like it not to slow me down either. I think finding a DR that will work with you and understands the nuances of hormone treatment is key. All the best to you.
  • Yep (Ha****o's Thyroiditis)

1st -make sure your thyroid levels are regulated, 2nd- nail the diet, in my case micronutrient dense foods and a wide variety, nailing my macros, 3rd -exercise, in my case prefer weights Lastly-consistency is key

Yep. Mine is pretty mild and easily controlled with medicine. It hasn't impacted my weight much (if any). When I first went on the meds it helped me lose a few lbs, but nothing major. I try to eat about 1600 calories a day (now more since I'm in my 3rd trimester of pregnancy) and work out several times a week.

My mom's is much harder to control with meds, and she has to be very diligent with her food & exercise regimen otherwise the weight creeps up. But she's had problems with it for 35 years now and has, for the most part, maintained a relatively healthy weight.
