Hey guys
I’m still learning on the app
People have said to concerntrate on my calories more than macros as I don’t quite understand them…
If I click on diary and then nutrition it’s comes up this big list of how much protein, fats, sugars, carbs you have had in a day
Now mine says I can have 208g carbs if I scan a food that says I’ve had 30 grams of carbs obviously I’ve got 170g of carbs remaining for that day
Will I really lose weight eating that amount of carbs in one day?
Should I just stick to scanning and just keeping within my calorie allowance rather than looking at all that?
I know you shouldn’t believe Google but on there is says eating 50g-150g carbs a day will help to lose weight so I’m a bit confused x
Thank you

Carbs aren't evil, they don't cause weight gain. Your weight is determined by your calorie intake, and it doesn't really matter whether those calories are coming from carbs, fat or protein, purely for weight loss.
However: some people feel more satiated when eating fewer carbs, making it easier to stick with their calorie goal (or if they're not counting calories, they tend to eat less when lowering their carb intake).
I lost 70+ lbs eating more than 150 carbs a day, simply because my overall calorie intake was smaller than the number of calories needed to maintain my weight. Low carbs wouldn't work for me because I would find it unpleasant. But it works well for others, so all I can say it: try it out for yourself? But you don't need to eat low carb if you are happy and satiated eating more carbs within your calorie goal.
Side note: eating fewer carbs means your body holds on to less water. Some people interpret that as quicker weight loss, but it's just water and after the initial adjustment, your weight won't drop any faster - actual weight loss is about losing bodyfat, which is determined by calorie intake and calorie expenditure.
Conclusion:
- calories determine weight loss (or gain)
- macros are relevant for health, fitness performance, satiation
Focusing on everything at once can be overwhelming, that's why we often suggest first just sticking within your calorie goal and looking at macros later on.7 -
You received really great answers for the same question here, I’d review this post again. Sometimes we all need to just go back to the basics and relearn what we once did 😊 When I make something complicated for myself I take a deep breath and go back to square one for a refresher.
