Hard is subjective to each individual. The process is quite simple if you adhere to consistency. It's hard if you don't.

You have choices about tactics. You can make it harder or easier.

Harder: Unpleasant, inconvenient, intense, exhausting new exercise. Extreme, restrictive eating plan involving difficult eating schedules and unenjoyable "diet food". Goal of losing weight as fast as possible.

Easier: Moving more in daily life, gradually adding some fun, practical exercise on a workable schedule. Eating foods you enjoy in portions, proportions and frequencies that on average achieve a sensibly moderate calorie deficit and reasonable overall nutrition. Goal of slow and steady fat loss, with a focus on creating positive permanent habits so the weight stays off.

"Harder" is a common choice, for some reason. It isn't the only way.

    I recommend "easier".

easy and hard, at the same time.
Its easy to *say* I am going to do this. It is a commitment. How hard it is to make the commitment, I think, depends on how much you want the result.

I think its easier to start with things you can manage. We found a meal plan filled with foods we like, that requires a lot of small meals -- so if you are like me and always looking forward to the next meal , it is never far away. this part - for the first time in my life - has been EASY.

I also started with a no-impact cardio workout from youtube - its far from ideal, but it got me moving and going for 30 minutes in the morning, after coffee, before breakfast, 3 times a week. proving to myself for a couple weeks that i could do a 30 minute routine, that it didn't screw up my day, and knowing that *any* exercise is better than none - it helps me get to it every day. REASONABLY EASY - MODERATE.

I have more recently started weights. I get DOMS, which has always really stopped me - its hard. its a level of soreness and swelling far beyond 'muscle stiffness'. Persevering through that was *HARD*. week 2, week 3 really, really sucked -- but I noticed that week 2 hurt me less than week 1, and week 3 even less -- so there gets some motivation to keep working out regularly so that when I *DO* use my muscles, I don't get 2 days of agony afterwards. totally worth it. HARD.

However... I put my workouts with some details into my diary, getting the calorie estimtes vs my diet --- and its encouraging and getting easier. Also taking the first notch out of my belt makes it even easier.

If it was easy no one would be obese! :)
