Volume vs Weight

Hi everyone, so I have a question about a particular food that has a pretty large disconnect between the the serving size volume and the weight.
I'm eating Cascadian Organic Honey nut o's, which says 1 Cup or 30 grams is 110 calories. I usually just measured out a cup and called it 110 calories. But this morning I decided to weigh it...and it turns out 1 C is only 15 grams!
Now I'm aware that typically weighing your food is far more accurate. But it's so rare to encounter a food that actually weighs LESS than you thought -- and therefore has fewer calories.
So what do you think? Would you keep going with 1 C = 110 calories, or 15 g = 55 calories?

I would go by the weight, but only if I actually weighed it. The weight of cereal in a cup can vary greatly between each filling (depending on how compact it is in the cup measure), so you could end up with a cup that is closer to 30g without really noticing.0

Good point! I guess I'll just have to take the extra minute and weigh it every morning.0

When chosing between the two, I'd go with weight. As chezjuan said, the volume may be affected the orientation and the compactness of the food. Using weight means you won't have to worry about how the food is oriented in the measuring device. It only worries about the mass of what is present.0
