I hope you're getting lots of support from your doctor. For example, they should be able to refer you to a diabetes educator and physical therapist.
What happens in three years? With discipline, you should be able to come close at least. (Many posters here say the last 10-20 pounds takes forever.)
Here's my favorite article on motivation. (Warning: language is "salty.") http://www.wisdomination.com/screw-motivation-what-you-need-is-discipline/0 -
Your going to have to be diligent and have enough discipline to make the right food choices, and while your going to hear it's all about calories from a few people, it's not, it's about the food in your situation. Hopefully you make the right food choices over the next 3 years. cheers.0

I'm going to address the "husband" part.
-
Tell him:
- " I am going to save my own life here and keep myself off dangerous expensive medical treatment. Please be on my side."
- "Things are going to change. You may need to fend for yourself food-wise at least part of the time. Please keep your snacky items off the countertops. Here is a spot that is just for you and I'm not going to keep track of your snacks, you'll have to buy them yourself. I won't go in your cupboard."
Then - stick to that. I find that no one forces me to eat, that's all on me. My hand, my mouth. I have to make the decisions about what and how much I eat. I cannot blame anyone else. They can and do offer me all kinds of eating opportunities and I had to learn how to politely decline.
If your husband is a jerk about that, well, that's his problem and we can't help you there.
