Do You Have a Mattress You Love? Please Recommend Mattresses to Me.

Does anyone here have a mattress that you love? We need a new mattress... My back is killing me and I can't sleep well. Our former mattress is a torture device. If I was on my left side, I felt like I couldn't breathe, and some of my limbs would start falling asleep. No matter how we slept, both DH and I would have back pain that we think was caused by the mattress. So we are currently trying out the Nectar Premium Hybrid, which is nice and the firmest mattress that Nectar has. But I don't think it's working for me. I want something firmer. And I don't like how the Nectar moves when my DH moves around-- I feel the movement all over the place as though it's on wheels. I'm still not sleeping well, I still wake up too early and can't get back to sleep. But the worst thing is, I'm still having back issues. Woke up this morning with the worst back pain yet.

In the U.S., I love my top of the line Stearns and Foster. They are pricey, but come with free delivery and a 90 day trial.

After years os spending a fortune on expensive brandname mattresses at those speciality mattress stores I bought a memory foam mattress from Ikea.

Most comfortable mattress I've ever slept on.

It cost half of those brand names and came compressed in a box that fit in the back of my SUV. Only problem was disposing of the old mattress.

Sleep Number. Unlike mattresses that compress after a few years, I can always inflate to bring firmness to my mattress. And I've had this unit for almost 20 years. I have had to change the top foam, but that was minimal compared to buying a new mattress all over again.

For people with chemical sensitivities, Avocado Green Mattresses is for you! I kept marveling at how the copy seemed to be written for me personally.

OP - I don't like firm and use a topper to make it less firm. If this brand interests you, contact them and ask about firmness options.

While a new mattress is a great idea, I think that you should throw some other interventions at your back.

    1. Walking during the day: https://aica.com/10-reasons-why-walking-is-good-for-your-lower-back/
    2. Gentle stretching in the evening. If I don't do at least 22 minutes of yoga warmups at night, I wake with back pain. I regularly do 22-42 minutes. These people recommend 10 minutes and include examples: https://www.hss.edu/article_stretches-before-bed.asp

@kshama2001 , I think you might be right that our back issues could be addressed with other methods than just a new mattress. Thanks for the tips; I will use them.

For over a year, I have often been waking way too early for me (4:00 AM - 6:00 AM) (I need to be waking around 7:00-7:30 to get enough sleep in) and I'm unable to fall back to sleep. So annoying, and makes me miserable because I'm losing too much sleep. This is the #1 thing for me-- if I can get back to sleep in the wee hours on any mattress, I will be happy with that mattress. I just want to get enough sleep!! Well over the past few days I have woken up three times in the wee hours. Each time, I did get back to sleep. This morning I thought for SURE I wouldn't be able to get back to sleep because I was showing all the signs of not being able to (late enough in the morning, mind active, etc). Well I got back to sleep before I knew it. And, woke up with no back pain. So maybe I need to give this new Nectar mattress a chance.

I've been struggling with sleep for decades. I have to be right on point with my sleep hygiene plus I take melatonin and some prescription stuff that is not directly for sleep but helps.

Another vote for Sleep Number inflatable mattresses. We got a dual-chamber one where my wife and I can each set our own preferred tension on our side of the bed, and when she was pregnant she could change the tension every single day as needed for that particular day. Bought our first one 18 years ago; after 15 years, gave it to our son and bought a newer model for us. Totally recommend.

I have an avocado lux organic mattress. It’s my fav. They have a line of mattresses to pick from. Even though I like firm mattresses, their plush top is so comfortable.

We have a Leesa. Most comfortable mattress I've ever slept on. We got them for our boys as well and also bought them for our 2 twin guest beds.

We have the dormeo memory foam mattress with the mattress topper too :)
It’s so comfy like you literally sort of soak into the bed :)
We got it from Argos if you have one of this where you are :) x

I LOVE my sleep number!! Great for a couple if you get the split one. I have a friend who hates a soft mattress when she came over to stay I turned my sleep number up to 99 and she thought that was GREAT!! I love a very soft mattress normally LOL It's at 35!! That's quite low, but that's where I love it, when my back hurts more, I put it up to 55. I love that flexiblity. As others mentioned until I started to work on my core muscles I didn't feel better long term.

Don't go with matresses that work for other people but with one that works for you. That means you need to test it and feel comfortable. For me, I'm happy with a medium hard boxspring from Ikea with a soft Ikea topper. I can't sleep on memory foam because my body hurts when I can't rotate in my sleep. Hard is a huge NOPE! for me for the same reason.
