What healthy item MUST you have on hand?

These are things I buy every week:
Hummus
Egg whites
Skim milk and 1% milk (for my coffee)
Whole wheat bread
Spinach and/or lettuce
Bananas
1-2 other fruits
Red or orange peppers (I get them at a discount store for $1.49/lb. and usually eat a few pounds per week)
Greek yogurt
Veggies that are in season
I also make sure to have eggs, reduced fat cheese, almonds, cashews, beans, brown rice, oatmeal, whole wheat pasta, tuna, peanut butter, unsweetened applesauce, and frozen vegetables on hand.
I've gotten really good at checking the store flyer every week and planning my meals based on what lean proteins are on sale. I stock up on staples at the discount store, or else I buy them when they're on sale. My store always seems to have either Chobani or Fage yogurts on sale 10 for $10. When the Fage go on sale, I buy 15 or 20 at a time, since that's .50 less than they normally are. Whoever tries to say healthy eating is too expensive just doesn't take the time to plan!0 -

Oatmeal, whole wheat bread or bagel, eggs for breakfast choices.
Bananas, no fat yogurt for snack.
Fruits, veggies, salads, grilled chicken for lunch.
Dinners: pasta, grilled fish, water based soups, legumes, rice, roast beef.
The great thing about myfitnesspal is you can eat such a healthy variety. I eat everything my family eats, just lesser portions to fit within my calorie goal.0 -
