Everyday lifestyle for activity/calories burned

Hi everyone, I'm new to this site. I'm 67 yrs old with many physical issues, which makes my choices of exercise very limited. I believe I saw dancing and stair climbing as options, but would love to see my everyday routines included in the choices. (Such as: washing dishes, moping floor, vacuuming, dusting, laundry, shoveling snow, etc)

Apologies if the exercises we showcase might be too advanced or outside the range of motion you're looking for.

I will pass your feedback along to the team. In the mean time, consider taking a look at the following blog posts for some ideas on low-impact activities.

7 Best Low-Impact Cardio Options For Creaky Joints

Low-Impact Exercises That Deliver Big Results

Premium members have access to our Workout Routines feature that includes some Low Impact and Seated Routines. Plus you can build your own from a curated database of movements. More than happy to hear if you can't find the movements you're looking for. And we looking into adding alternate movement suggestions to many descriptions so you can find the movements that work for you.

Hi, fellow 67 year old here.

The way MFP is designed, it usually works best to include activities we do routinely in our "activity level" setting. (That would be our job, or home chores and such we do daily, a couple of times every week, etc.)

Even the "sedentary/not very active" setting assumes some level of daily life movement, things like routine housecleaning, cooking, etc. The level of movement included there tends to be equivalent to something in the 3500-5000 steps range, but it can include other types of movements that aren't steps.

If you're trying to log household activity as exercise (using the MFP exercise database), I'd encourage caution to avoid double counting the routine level of activity that's already in your calorie goal via your activity level setting. For myself, I only log housework as exercise if it's something major and very unusual, such as spending several hours cleaning out the garage, or a multi-hour Spring cleaning that's very non-routine.

If you do want to add household things as exercise via the exercise database, there are some options in there, in the cardiovascular section. You can scroll through the exercise database to find them, but some examples are:

    Cleaning, light, moderate effort
    Cleaning, heavy, vigorous effort
    Cooking or food preparation
    Gardening, general
    Moving furniture, household
    Mowing lawn, riding mower
    Shoveling Snow

    . . . and more.
