It's only just begun. Post hysterectomy journey

Just started on this journey post-op abdo hysterectomy. My long term goal is to lose the belly and lose about 25kgs. If it takes 2-3 years, all good. I love the calorie counter @ 1200 calories per day. It has motivated me to adjust my food choices. Step counter takes time to sync, but gets there eventually. I like that I can use exercise to reduce daily calorie count when I have gone over my daily goal. 1.5kg lost to date. Any advice tackling post hysterectomy belly would be appreciated

How long ago was surgery? My best advice would be to not lose weight during acute healing - first few weeks after surgery.0

It has been 3 months, but I have had 2 rehospitalisations due to infection and poor woumd healing. I went back into theatre last week to reclose the incision. It is the belly that is botherimg me. It seems to have become quite distended post surgey.1

Under those circumstances, I'd suggest trying to hold body weight constant, and get as good nutrition as you can along the way, until quite fully healed.
Healing requires both calories and nutrition. I made the mistake, during weight loss, of staying in a calorie deficit while recovering from much more minor surgery. (It was a laparoscopic gallbladder removal.) I got weak and fatigued. It took multiple weeks to recover. Fortunately, my body prioritized healing, so the only penalty was that weakness/fatigue (though there may've been a little hair thinning, which tends to be delayed by a few weeks).
There will be time once you're back fully healed to focus on losing weight. Unless your doctor explicitly tells you to lose weight as you heal, I cannot recommend it.
I'm sending hopes for your full recovery, as soon as possible!0 -
You mention not being fully healed yet, so time and patience should be first on the list - it could be normal post-op swelling.
After everything has healed, perhaps look into exercises like the stomach vacuum exercise?
If your stomach is distended from too much bodyfat, weight loss is the way to go (and strength training to improve body composition), because you cannot spot reduce fat. But if it's not from bodyfat, stomach vacuum exercises and other core exercises can help tighten up your core ('inner corset').
