When to take a rest day?

I've always heard you didn't need to take a rest day from cardio. My husband and I rode a lot this past weekend and the back of my thighs hurt! We went 32 miles over Saturday and Sunday and a small leisure ride last night of 5 miles. Today I hurt a bit when walking. Should I take a rest day or is it not necessary?

When your body tells you too!

i'm terrible.. i go on month long exercise benders with no breaks. I need someone to remind me that the my body needs rest.

I'm on day 4 in a row right now. and i'm sore and I can't wait to get to the gym tonight!

i'm in love with combat class. :p

I take one rest day a week but I also lift heavy.

If you are that sore, it's not going to do any harm to take a day off.

I used to be a streak runner (not a nude streaker- I ran every day with no rest days) but, depending on the speed and distance, you definitely want to take a rest day every week. It's better to take one day off than to risk hurting yourself because you DIDN'T rest and then needing to take a week or two off.
