Losing just 50 would be noticeable, even more so, if getting down to 175-180. 50 lbs is more than 20%! Would you not think so?1

I went from 220 to 180. People noticed. Several comments.1

Yes, it would be noticeable.
There's a possible complication(s), though:
Sometimes people around us don't mention that they've noticed, because it can be considered impolite to comment on another person's body weight or body shape.
Sometimes we have difficulties seeing our own loss. I did. I think I had an image of myself in my head (as someone overweight in a particular way) and when I looked in the mirror, that's what I saw. The changes were so gradual, that the image in that mirror looked the same from one day to the next. I've seen some people here say that they could see the difference in before/after photos**, but I couldn't even necessarily see it in photos at first. It took time for my image of myself to catch up to the reality.
** It would be a good plan to take some honest photos now, either in a bathing suit or close-fitting but not compressive workout-type clothes. Ideally, take full-length front, side and back views, and plan to stand in exactly the same way, in the same lighting, from first photos to last if possible, so changes are more obvious. Believe it or not now, eventually you will want to show the photos to others because you'll be proud of your success, and maybe even post the photos here on MFP. You'll want clothing you can let others see, and MFP doesn't allow photos in underwear.
Final thought: Weight loss will show more if you get clothing that fits well as you shrink. Thrift shops or resale shops can be a help to do that affordably. Size changes will take a little longer at higher sizes, but speed up as you continue losing to smaller sizes. Getting just a few basic things that fit can be encouraging.
You can do this: Best wishes!4 -
Yes, it will definitely show. I had the same question in 2016 228lbs.
Then I read losing even 5% of your weight improves health outcomes…did that. 10% even more improved health out ones. Did that. Etc. Eventually down to 150.3 female 60’s 5’8” med-large frame. I maintained ~ 158. Increased last year to avg 166. Now popped up 173 due to stress with an ill family member’s care past 6 months…
I felt so thin at this weight in 2018 as I was losing. Now I feel “inflated”, uncomfortable, harder to climb hills/stairs. Quire easy when thinner!!
So don’t forget to jot down how you feel now & I highly recommend recording measurements monthly - even at the beginning. Ann is right, you will wish you had them after you lose weight.
No one said anything to me about my weight loss for the reasons Ann mentioned: they thought it would be impolite.
Best to you

Not sure if that's a serious question, it's hard to tell these days. Why do you ask, specifically?
Let me leave this for you and it may not apply to you but maybe your concerned with someone you know asking this question.

It is noticeable, but here's the catch. It's hard for some of us including myself to see ourselves as we actually are. When I went from 242 lb to 181, I lost several inches around my waist and had to go to smaller clothing sizes, and while other people commented on my weight loss, I was unable to see it when looking in a mirror.3

Went to Subway near me for lunch today. I hadn't seen the manager in quite a while. First thing she said, You've lost a lot of weight.1

I'm at 51 down right now. Yes it is noticeable. But I have to agree, it's hard for me to see myself as smaller. I literally just told myself that what I am wearing today is not flattering because I feel fat! When I look in the mirror, I do not always see what is there. My doctor said that there are various forms of body dysmorphia, one of them being what I deal with. I can see several different sizes of myself in the same outfit in a short period of time yet I don't see the same image. I can see a thin version of myself in one mirror but looking in the office windows on my way to my office I will see someone that I find is still too overweight. Then the next day when I go to put on a fav pair of (smaller sized) jeans, I'll think "oh I really have lost weight". It's all mind games. But in answer to your question...YES 50 pounds is noticeable, quite a bit so!

When it comes to the mirror it is not uncommon for the brain to take some time to catch up.2

Yes, noticeable. How big of a visual change will depend on body type--but yes, this should be visible.0 -
My eyes lie when I lose weight.
Keep 1 pair of pants or fitted item that you wore at your heaviest. Try it on with 50 pounds gone--it will be too big. It will be easier to 'see' it when you do this. Those non-stretch paints or fitted item will help you 'see' the change.0
