Common Prices for 2kg Whey Protein Powder?

I'm trying to figure out what brand to buy, but I'm on a relatively fixed budget (not employed currently). Is $40 for a 2kg tub a pretty reasonable price, or should I look online for something else? Also, which is more versatile chocolate or vanilla as far as not only shakes but baking/other recipes? I'm new to this whole protein powder thing. I'm looking into it because I have a harder time hitting my protein goals. Any other suggestions are helpful as well, except for fish/seafood. Nope nope nope!
