Over 60 returning to mfp

Hi all, I am returning after some success at ww ($$)and then a program through my health insurance (that did not work out). I have lost 10 lbs again, if I'm honest with myself about where I started. This is where I get stuck however. I looked at my weight from a year ago, and yep, got to this weight before. Any motivational ideas or support is greatly appreciated!

    Hi, and welcome!

I'm 67 (68 in a couple of weeks), and an MFP oldie as well. I lost around 50 pounds back in 2015-16, have been hanging around here maintaining weight since.

Obviously, you know how to lose weight . . . so you know there's no particular magic to it. It's about eating moderately fewer calories than you burn, on average over a reasonable time period.

The only thing I think some people overlook is that weight management isn't a quick project with an end date, after which things go back to normal. That's the recipe for yo-yos in weight.

For anyone (like me) with a tendency toward overweight, weight management is forever. (I was overweight to obese for around 30 years, before losing that weight. I've been at a healthy weight for 7+ years now, nearly 8.)

That "forever-ness" puts a priority on thinking in terms of establishing new eating and activity patterns that are relatively easy (after discovery and practice), so they can continue almost on autopilot long term.

You can get past your usual stall point. It just requires that you . . . keep going. If you're weight stable for 4-6 weeks or more, and want to lose a bit more, think about where you can trim calories from your eating a bit without too much pain, or where you can add a little more movement (daily life stuff or exercise).

    Best wishes!
