Its like my daily ritual usually. After work I hit the gym, then shower up then dinner with wine...............and wine night cap afterwards. I know they say a glass of wine a day is good for your heart. Im averaging about a bottle of Merlot a night. Do you think I might be overdoing it a bit?
I do work out alot and take a daily multivitamin!

According to a 2019 article by the American Heart Association, the cause and effect relationship to drinking red wine and a reduced incidence of heart disease has not been established, but there are studies that show that people who drink a MODERATE amount of red wine (other alcohols have shown the same relationship) have lower risk of dying of heart disease. The key word there is MODERATE. They define moderate as 1-2 servings of alcohol per day. One serving of wine is defined as 4 oz. So a moderate intake of wine would be no more than 8 oz of wine per day. It sounds like you are consuming more than that. No judgement from me on how you choose to consume your calories, but it's worth noting that if your justification for having wine is the health benefits, anything above 8 ozs is counterproductive.1

Anyone can figure out their best approach to weight management and health.
One bottle of merlot is around 610 calories worth of wine. At my TDEE, there's no way I could get any remotely adequate minimum of protein, healthy fats, and and veggies/fruit while consuming 610 calories of wine daily, even on maintenance calories. Maybe you can. Regardless, that's your tradeoff to make.
What frhaberl says above about current health recommendations is correct: Most mainstream sources suggest a maximum of 2 servings daily for men, 1 for women, ideally not every day of the week. Looking at overall health (not just heart), some sound mainstream sources are now saying having zero alcohol is more healthful than having any at all. The beneficial compounds in red wine (chiefly resveratrol) are available in grapes, berries, and some other foods that don't have alcohol in them.
I drink some wine. I do that with the knowledge that alcohol, though in some ways enjoyable, is essentially a poison. I work out and get good overall nutrition, take vitamins, and am at a healthy weight. None of that cancels out the down side of consuming alcohol, though it's obviously better overall than eating poorly, not working out, and consuming the same alcohol.
It's your call whether you'd be better off drinking less (or no) alcohol. I suspect from the tone of your post - sort of a whistling past the graveyard feeling - that you might be thinking it's not the best plan for overall health.2 -

Yes, you are and if you don't believe me, ask your liver.1 -

Yes, one bottle per day is alcoholism territory. Apart from the influence on your liver this is also a massive amount of calories and potentially lack of nutrients.4 -
Recomendations in Australia ( and I highly doubt they are much different elsewhere) is a limit of 2 standard drinks per day, with 1 or 2 days per week alcohol free.
A bottle of red wine (750ml of 13.5% alcohol) ) contains around 8 standard drinks.
Of course even moderate drinkers go to a party occasionally and drink more than 2 drinks - but doing much more than that and much more often than that - yes, that is over doing it and not likely to do your liver or your brain any good.2 -
Yes, it looks like you went a little overboard. Even if you have a lot of confidence and take a multivitamin, this does not mean that you can drink unlimited amounts of alcohol without any health consequences.

Interesting user name for someone who likes wine!0

Not that I can talk, but "they" were always full of crap and "they" were just marketing their product. The actual science doesn't back it up. And yeah, a full bottle every night is quite a lot.2

Yeah, honestly, it feels like maybe you're not that bothered about whether or not it's good for you. It almost feels like the kind of boasting someone does who's already been called out by people for drinking too much. Honestly, it's your body. Do what you want.3

Thats a huge amount of weekly calories plus just not good for overall health. best to scale it back. Half that amount would be better.0

I know I'm calling you out here, but you asked the same question back in 2015.
I recognise that it can be challenging to cut down on alcohol if you tend to use it to help wind down and relax, which is how it comes across in your post.
It's obviously been on your mind (at least some of the time) for quite a while. If you are seriously trying to change and finding it hard, you may want to seek some support.
ETA: Ok, so I see you asked the same question in 2012 too, so I'm guessing you're just saying it for effect or a laugh. Still, I'll leave the rest of my reply here.7 -
@BEERRUNNER I’ve seen many of your threads about hangovers and hangover cures.
I’d say you know you have hit unhealthy territory especially since you post about too much wine periodically. Sometimes it’s a coping mechanism to normalize it or make fun of it. How do you feel physically and mentally? Is this something you are worried about long term?
There is a thread about drinking less on MFP. Maybe helpful?2 -
