I don’t know about “recommend” but I’m useless without about 9 hours. My sister does great with only 6 or 7, so it just depends on what you yourself need to feel good and rested.1

As much as you can get. Just kidding, but for many that's the answer.
To be serious it depends on so many factors--age, daily activity, etc. , So..... varies for everyone. I used to need 8 hours to function, now I'm 68 and if I sleep too long I get headaches or anxiety around 4 or 5 in the morning. If I get 7 hours now I'll sleep deeply and wake up rested.0 -
The general recommendation from most health bodies for adults is 7-9 hours. I'm usually around 7-7.5...8-9 hrs on weekends.0

As many as it takes to make you feel your best. I hear all about how you need 8 hours or 7-8 hours. But I usually feel best if I average 6.5 hours. I'm retired, mostly sedentary. I think that makes a difference. If I worked harder, I might need more sleep.
How about you? How much do you think you need?0 -
between 6 and 7hrs for me. 50M, desk job, 4 days a week 1hr on the elliptical machine.0

Ideally, 10 hours a night would be great and I do get that about once a week.
Unfortunately the rest of the time, I have to make do with 7 -7.5.1
