Hello everyone! I’m one of the lucky ones who gets to take on the challenge of losing 100 pounds. Any advice on this is welcomed as it seems to be such a huge mountain to climb. All I can focus on is getting through day 1.

And that is exactly where you need to start...Day 1! What does day one look like for you? Why do you 'need' to lose 100 lbs?
I am just tired of being overweight, like started my journey at 362 lbs in May of 2022. Down to 302 as of this morning. Had a few months slow down due to a hernia surgery but getting back to my old (new) self. 😁
I would say don't start to big to fast. I started with
walking in my living room, Pj's flip flops, bare foot however I was. I found the more 'pep' I needed to do to do anything the more daunting I found it. I began tracking calories and weighing and portioning my food. I had no idea what portion sizes looked like it was a real eye opener. I now walk outside as much as I can but due to the season change it is not always do able. I do some dumbell weights at home 3 times a week. Started with 3 lb weights and am working my way up, using 8's right now and it is amazing how heavy they can be...😄. And water!! Drink lots of water. I do 3 litres a day...and protein, get your protien in. Goal weight x .8 will give you the amt of protein you should consume in a day.
It will all start to fall into place. It can take time. It's ok to be confused and overwhelmed, slow and steady and the old cliché is true....move more, eat less.!1 -
Hello, thanks for posting. I also have a lot of weight to lose. I just want to feel better. I’m so tired of being heavy. I have been heavy my whole life I would say don’t think of it as you need to lose 100 pounds only think of it as I want to change the way I am eating and moving my body just one day at a time. I will send you a friend request.

Over the years, I've lost the same 90 pounds twice and seventy pounds once. I made mistakes.- It's a long trip, so don't get discouraged by bad weeks or days.
- Don't make changes you can't live with long-term (my big problem the first 2 times).
- Make small changes that fit your lifestyle. Gradual change is easier to adapt to.
- Check for underlying problems--mental or physical.
- Make sure you sleep well.
- Take a multivitamin.
- Exercise doesn't have to be your life. Just add in more movement.
- Be kind to yourself.
- Make micro goals. When you think--OMG, I need to lose 100 pounds it can seem overwhelming. I set 10% goals. My first mini-goal is to lose 10% of my weight. So if I weighed 250 pounds, my goal would be to lose 25 pounds. I picked these numbers because they are easy to understand. Maybe you want to start with a goal of losing 5% of your total weight. These mini-goals give you celebrations along the way and seem more attainable.
- If you are a reward-based person, try giving yourself little non-food-related rewards for hitting certain goals. When I lost 40 pounds, I let myself buy a pair of new pants instead of living in stretch leggings or only buying at Goodwill. Getting little rewards can be encouraging to some.
- Find a support group. Either here or at home. People who are on your side.
- When a day is done, it's done. So if you had a good day, great! If you had a terrible day, it's over. The next day is a clean slate. Don't double down and turn a bad day into a bad year.
I have no idea if any of that will help. I hope it does.
Doesn't work for you? Just toss it then.

^ @loulee997 beat me to it.
I lost 97. Like you, I thought it was insurmountable. I held my breath and just started. So many “I’ll start Mondays- as soon as I eat this one last bag of Cadbury crispy eggs……”.
Day 1 was the absolute hardest. Week one the hardest. If you can make it through those, you can make it.
I set reasonable goals and broke those down into micro goals.
My first goal was to reach 180. When I lost the first ten, that was a quarter of the way there. Another 5 was 38%, and darn if that wasn’t close to 40% which was almost halfway there, right? It was all mind games and numbers but it worked.
When I reached 180, I was surprised at my success. What to do next? Set a goal of 160.
This time I found a pencil dress at TJMAxx and made it a goal. I hung it in the closet sideways, over top of everything else. I had to touch and consider it in order to get under it to my “real” clothes, every single day. That was very effective for me, and I found myself talking to it every day. “What fun we’ll have! Won’t everyone be surprised!”
Reached that goal, and started setting smaller ones as they became slower to achieve. (Weight loss slows as you become smaller). I didn’t know where to wind up. I ended up too small, surprisingly, and made a conscious decision to add some weight back. It was hard to make that decision, but no regrets.
I strongly recommend ready all the sticky threads at the top of each board, asking questions and participating in the boards. I found the support here to be amazing, and the wealth of knowledge to be invaluable. I have asked some real clunkers over the years, but if you don’t ask, how will you learn? I still marvel at all the things I don’t know about weight loss, nutrition, and so on.
It’s only a huge mountain if you make it one.0
