5wk predicted weight is playing up yet again

Hi guys, so I've been using this app yrs and the 5wk Weight prediction has shot up again. I've eaten exact same foods daily for yrs. Everyday has been same calories in and out, and same prediction. Yesterday its shot up over a stone heavier now. I've scrolled through past dates and they've all changed to over a stone increase now too. I obviously only use the prediction as a ball park figure, but it's always been the exact same 5wk prediction. I'm fed up with this app now, so it's back to the scales again instead. Has this happened to any of you guys? Thanks 😊

The prediction is a gimmick. Some people even lie on their food log to manipulate the prediction (not saying you), whether consciously or subconsciously. The scale will tell you the truth. Just don’t forget that what’s staring back at you at any given time could also be normal weight fluctuations. That’s why following the scale trend is the real predictor, not the MFP version. But as for why, not sure. Did you have a birthday or update your weight? Either way, I’d ignore that thing altogether 😊.

Do you have a typo in your logged weight? That would be my first guess.

The prediction takes the inputs you give (or accept without editing) to the app/website and spits out a theoretical number based on your theoretical inputs.

If the inputs (numbers) sent to the app/website change then your theoretical results also change.

In computer terms: GIGO. If the quality of your inputs are garbage, the quality of your outputs will be garbage too.

There's no computer fairy (yet) that can fix faulty assumptions.

And the outputs are based on population studies.

As an individual, your individual results have to be validated against the population models.

In other words the only things that count (and can be used to validate your assumptions and those of the app) are your actual results.

If you get too angry reading this because you are working hard at not eating anything and exercising lots and the app is not working and you're not getting the results you deserve, the problem is not the app.

The problem is probably somewhere between your goal setting, your expectations and the way you are actually going about implementing this project.

Work as smart and as hard as possible not just as hard as possible! 😘

Since you have been here for years, I guess you missed that the prediction is completely useless. When I first started here 13 years back, I thought it might be in some way accurate, but I was pretty quickly shown that the number is about as accurate as simply guessing, probably less so. I stopped closing out my daily log because all it does is pull up that annoying prediction. Just ignore it. It is meaningless. It is, as some have already said, a gimmick for so many reasons.
